OK, this is completely different from what I'd normally write, but I quite liked how it turned out anyway. If anyone's interested, I have more... Please review!

Disclaimer - The characters are not mine! (Though I did mess up the canon ages somewhat...)

From the moment she saw her, she wanted her. She was captivated by the way she moved, by the sound of her voice, and of course, by her breathtaking beauty. As she swept past the Gryffindor table, heads turned. Two seats down from Lily, James Potter nudged Sirius Black , his eyes practically popping out of his skull.

"So which one of your vile cousins is that then?" (Because it was obvious she was a Black, no-one else had that demeanour).

"Narcissa." Sirius's tone was flat. "Second year. Out of your league, mate. Stay away from her."

And he does, but Lily doesn't.

It takes a couple of years of course, two years of watching and longing and asking Severus discreet questions until he threatens to hex her (because she knows she can trust him with anything). When it happens, she almost can't believe it.

She's minding her own business, walking back from class, when suddenly she's being pushed into an empty classroom. She's irate, ready to use all of her best hexes on the culprit, until she looks up. Because when she does, it's all she can do to keep her heart beating.

"What do want?" She blurts out, and she wishes she weren't a redhead, because on some people (on Narcissa) the blush that's crawling up her cheeks might look attractive, but on her it just clashes with her hair.

"Oh no." Narcissa purrs, pushing her back onto the desk, standing above her, tall, proud, completely self-assured. "The question is, what do you want?"

And then she leans forward and kisses her, and suddenly the world has faded away. There is nothing but two pairs of lips and the taste of strawberries (which Lily instantly decides is her favourite flavour in the world). Lily tries to deepen the kiss, but Narcissa pulls back, shaking her head.

"My rules." Is all she says, before leaving the room in a swish of blonde hair and black robes, and Lily would think it was all a dream, but she can still taste the strawberries.

Later she learns that Lucius Malfoy is courting Narcissa, overhears Andromeda Black telling Sirius that the courtship has been entirely arranged by the parents, and she understands Narcissa's need to make the rules. She never says anything though, she'll let the older girl keep her pride (and besides, she's terrified of losing her). But the understanding makes the dominance a little easier to bear.

There's two more years of this, of dark corridors and deserted classrooms, of secret meetings and sneaking about. Two more years of Narcissa's rules. Sometimes she thinks she's breaking through, making cracks in the icy exterior, but she's always wrong. When they're apart, she can't decide if she wants to kill Narcissa or kiss her, but when they're together it's always kiss, so that's OK.

And then something happens that will change their lives forever.
