Scene: Bill confronts Scully about her illness and about Mulder while she's dealing with her cancer. The scene ends with her walking into the bathroom with a shirt he brings her. This picks up right after that.

Scully stared in the mirror, anger rising within her. How dare he say that to me? What does he even know? She finished buttoning her blouse and threw open the door. She was surprised to see her brother Bill still sitting in her hospital room.

"You thought I was gonna leave, didn't you?", he asked pointedly.

"Actually I did!", she said, coldly.

She glanced quickly at her brother as she fiddled about gathering up her belongings. She could feel his eyes following her, so she turned finally to face him. "What is it Bill?"

"You love him, don't you?"

"Bill...", she sighed. "Why are you asking me that?"

Bill's face was red and he was angry but he tried to keep from yelling at his younger sister. "Tell me the truth, Dana!"

Scully's jaw tightened. "Why? What do you know, Bill? You know very little about me!"

"You're my sister!"

Scully walked up to him, looking up into his face. She crossed her arms and tried to keep her cool exterior. "I'm also a grown woman now Bill. I'm an FBI agent. I never question you about your job! I never question you about your relationships!"

"Just tell the truth! That's why you keep putting yourself in danger, isn't it?"

"I don't have to answer to you Bill! I don't have to explain why I feel the need to continue to work...it's MY business! What? Do you expect me to just wither up and die?"

"Dana, I'm your big brother," he reasoned. "I'm just worried about you. I'm worried that your not thinking clearly!"

She turned her back to him. "I'll catch a taxi to mom's Bill."

"You don't owe him anything! You owe yourself and the family to stay well!"

"I do owe Mulder!", she said raising her voice. "You don't even know!"

Bill touched her shoulder. "Explain it to me then! Explain to me why you feel the need to get your face bashed in for him? Why isn't he here if he loved you so much, Dana? It seems lopsided to me!"

Scully's eyes narrowed. "You can be an ass sometimes, do you know that?"

Bill shook his head. "Then tell me I'm wrong...tell me you're not in love with him."

"An ass, Bill, you're an ass!", she said coldly.

"Mom already told me...", he said, sitting on the side of the hospital bed.

"Told you what Bill?"

"That he's in love with you!"

Scully's eyes widen and then she burst out laughing at her brother. "You're mistaken..."

"Missy told me the same thing, Dana, before she died, on the phone when you were in the hospital. Mom said he was the reason you won't leave even though your dying, Dana."

"I'm not dying!", she choked. "Mulder is my partner, Bill. My best friend...I won't leave the FBI because I don't want to! I can't abandon him right now!"

"You have to take care of yourself, Dana! What do you think would happen to us? To Mom, if things get worst? You can't care for yourself running around chasing after Mulder!

A nurse peered into Scully's room but she turned and continued down the hall. Scully looked at her brother and sighed. "I need his strength...You don't understand it, I get that...but I need him and he needs me! I need to find out what happened to me, Bill. Why I was given this disease and the only person that can help me with that is Mulder!"

Bill looked perplexed. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure, now can we drop it?"

Bill looked his sister in the eyes. "Yeah...we can for now." He reached out his hand to her but she looked at his hand a moment and then walked past him out into the hallway.
