Poetic
An Itachi & Sakura Drabble Challenge
This drabble is 300 words exact; no more, no less. I know it comes up on the word count something different, but trust me, it's accurate. I thank my friend Mokulule for giving me this challenge!
All it took was being hit in the head by a book.
It had fallen from the sky in the midst of his bath, provoking him beyond wonderment. The pocket-sized notebook that he now held was filled with uncompleted harlequin stories, intriguing him. Itachi already investigated every page; no author.
Who could write so well, so provocatively, yet throw it away?
He finished dressing and walked back to their camp below the mountain, his thoughts questioning.
Sakura was solemn when he arrived, very much unlike her rambunctious manner, and greeted him with a forced smile.
"Clean?" she asked.
"Interested," he replied stoically.
"Oh?"
Her smile turned genuine as she neared, fiddling with his cloak's collar, hinting that she wanted more.
"This"
He presented the book, watching her face pale as their eyes met, reflecting her fear-wrought expression.
"How did you get that?" she inquired.
A ghostly smile graced his lips; he found his mystery writer. She turned away, hiding her embarrassment.
"Why didn't you finish it?"
"They're... fantasies, that's all".
He put his arms around her waist, his breathe tickling her ear.
"Do you need inspiration?"
Sakura quirked an eyebrow in his direction, her back against him."I had no idea you read romance novels..."
"Certainly".
Suddenly, she snatched the notebook from his hands, breaking his hold and ran further into the range with Itachi chasing after her, even though he knew he'd never catch her.
How poetic.
When he woke the next day, the book was on the ground beside him, unblemished. Sitting up, he opened the cover, finding the title and pages completed:
Chronicles Of The Lingering
By: S. Haruno
For Love.
This made him smile, and from then on, he treasured every book he received from his freelancer, as she continued to write for her devoted private audience.
