Faraday&Alison
Nobody said it was easy
…
Faraday was slowly beginning to face the bitter consequences of his former actions.
After Tori and Alison left, Mathis had busted into the room with more energy than Faraday expected from a man who was just beaten unconscious.
"I knew you were weak, Astin, but weak enough to betray me? That is just blasphemous." He spit in their native tongue while blood continuously trickled down his forehead. Faraday resisted the urge to roll his eyes; Mathis was always overly dramatic about everything, at least some things haven't changed over the years.
Slowly Faraday raised his hands in a calming manner. "Mathis, we've both made mistakes, why don't we just sit down and-"
"You have violated the code of our men. You've abused and betrayed a fellow scientist and sent test subjects back without permission. I can have you reported."
Faraday did roll his eyes now. "Report me to whom? Look around you, Mathis. This place has been abandoned a long time ago. People are too concerned about the war, they don't care about two earth girls being sent back home."
Mathis's face turned red, but he knew he had lost that argument. "What has happened to you, Astin? Do you even care about your own home anymore? Have you lost sight of what your original mission was? Earth and that girl have changed you."
Faraday turned back to the console and felt his stomach drop just thinking about Alison, wondering if she made it through okay. "You're right, Mathis, they have changed me." He turned back to face him. "Being on Earth, meeting all the people there, made me realize how little there is here for me."
Mathis stood there in silence for a few seconds. "Follow me." He said after awhile. Faraday hesitated, but figured he had no choice and followed him.
They walked past the many doors until they were in front of one that Faraday hasn't seen for so long. The door that led outside.
Mathis opened the door and they both stepped out. Faraday had completely underestimated how bad things have gotten. The surrounding area that was once thriving with people and life was completely deserted. There were crater-sized holes in the dirt, and buildings that were burnt to the ground.
"What has happened?" Faraday asked, walking around in search for any living soul.
"As you said, Astin, we are at war. This place was demolished a few days ago; the lab was thankfully built to avoid these disasters so it remains standing. The war rages on in the neighboring areas, while our people are dying off. You have a choice to make now, remain the traitor you are and become another one of those dying souls, or bring back those two girls and join me in finishing the research that could save our planet from further destruction."
Faraday shook his head and swallowed. "How does your research have anything to do with this war?"
Mathis gave something that resembled a smile, "Because, if we finish this project, we can give our people the hope that they need. That we can stop the rebels before our world turns into complete ash."
Mathis stepped next to Faraday, "so what will it be?"
A/N: So I know probably no one will see this, but if you do maybe you will review? I know this kinda sucks, but I had to write it because QUICKSILVER IS COMING OUT SEPTEMBER! I am so excited, I need that book now. The cover is so beautiful, I NEED IT. And if you haven't read this book, READ IT NOW. Ultraviolet is one of my all time favorite books and it will make you look at life differently.
