Rose rested comfortably amongst the pillowy clouds of her room, Pearl stood at her side eyes cast down and away
"Pearl, I think it's almost time, I need you to get the others." Pearl stood stock still for a long moment, but before Rose could break the silence she burst out.
"Why?!" Rose didn't need to ask what she meant, she simply sat there waiting until Pearl finally continued. "Why do you need to do this? Why did you even start spending time with that. . .Human?!" She practically spit the word. "Was I. . . was I not enough? Did I do something wrong?" Rose beckoned her closer, pressing the palm of one pink hand to her cheek.
"My Pearl, you were everything; But this. . ." Taking hold of Pearl's wrist she guided her hand to her swollen belly ". . .He is more important than anything, more than you, or Greg, Or me." Pearl marveled at the feeling of fresh life wriggling under her hand, but drew back as if she'd been burned at Rose's words
"Nothing is more important than you!" Outrage and fear warred on Pearl's face even as tears rolled down her cheeks. Rose shook her head, smiling benevolence up at her.
"He is going to be the most important thing in all of your lives, he's going to need you Pearl, to guide him, to ground him, to be his rock. Just like you've always been for me." Rose reached up, gently tapping one finger against the gem in her forehead. "Teach him to be strong in the real way." Pearl took hold of Rose's hand.
"I can do that for you." Rose shook her head again."
"Do it for him." Pearl nodded, letting Rose's hand fall from hers.
"I'll get the others."
