The Shinigami were rarely, if ever, seen together in one place. Yet on this occasion they were. Around five hundred Shinigami were gathered around Armonia Justin Beyondormason, the Shinigami adviser, and Daril, the one who witnessed the death.
So Daril, Armonia said. Tell these Shinigami what you told me.
Daril started. As she spoke, a slight look of horror descended onto her face, dispelling any doubts that the less intelligent Shinigami may have had. Shinigami were never scared.
I was gambling. Sidoh was over there, just staring at the skulls. I shouted at him a few times, told him to watch his Death Note, you know how Ryuk took it before. He looked at me, then looked back. I would have left him alone until I realized the dust moving around him. Then he just…disappeared. Sidoh died.
The Shinigami, who had been silent up to now, suddenly started murmuring to each other, the volume gradually rising into a shout.
Silence! Armonia shouted. His powerful voice rose above the noise and cut through the air, silencing the shouts. Sidoh died because he had not written a name in his Death Note for many centuries. This serves as a warning to us, to write a name in our Notes regularly. I would rather not have to take this to the old man, so don't make a-
The five hundred or so Shinigami erupted again, scattering in all directions, grabbing their Death Notes. Armonia couldn't control this type of riot. In a matter of minutes, they were all crowded around the globes that let them see down into the human realm.
Every Shinigami was frantically scribbling in their notebooks, killing any human they could set their eyes upon.
Humans dropped like flies, a wave of bodies sweeping across the world. Whole cities were reduced to ghost towns in a matter of days. The skyscrapers in the cities, once places for business and people, were reduced to concrete and steel, hiding the deceased.
In a matter of decades, the whole world fell, some knowing that this was the work of Death Notes but unable to do anything about it. In the Shinigami realm, the scribbling stopped. Gukku looked up.
They're gone. He said with no emotion. They're all dead.
Everything was quiet. Through the silence, a small laugh emerged. Gukku looked around, wondering whom it was. He started to chuckle as well. One by one, every Shinigami laughed.
And the world was still.
