From Kabaji's point of view.

Enjoy.

When did I first meet him?

Oh yes. That fine spring day at the school gates, with the sakura petals afloat in the air. Such a glorious atmosphere marked the day we met. I was already above him at that point of time, and I still was to this day. His silver eyes beckoned knowingly; he treated others like his subordinates. It was like he knew he was king. And the whole school knew it as well. They worshiped him, feared him and loved him like a leader.

Our eyes locked that fine spring day.

"It is beautiful, naa Kabaji?"

"Usu."

I saw him raise an eyebrow, surprised. Then he smiled, I guess he was content with such an answer. Indeed, it was an answer that was ambiguous, and he could interpret in any way he liked. I knew so much about him. But he knew so little.

Follow him, keep an eye on him. Make sure he never finds out.

Orders given by a higher power. A sinister higher power. He was not allowed to know who I was, who I really was.

He treated me well, so did all the rest. He helped me when I was in trouble (which was rare), and taught me like a human being, not some retarded being.

"Happy Birthday, naa Kabaji?"

The Regulars whooped and cheered. Shishido muttered something about celebrating a "robot's birthday", only to be anxiously reprimanded by Othori, who said something along the lines of 'Kabaji-san scores better grades than you'.

"Usu." I nodded. The candles flickered in front of me.

"Make a wish, naa Kabaji?"

"Usu."

I wish that I didn't have to do this. I wish I could be a robot. I wish we could meet under more favourable conditions.

The candles lost their light, and I lost my heart that day. Messing with the air-con controls, wine, a few sleeping pills, and it was all over.

White lilies surrounded the bleak coffin in the graveyard. One by one, each paid their last respects to the dead. Atobe stood by its side, eyes swollen from the crying he did behind the scene. Hordes of students stood opposite him in silent mourning.

"Let us have a minute of silence for the great principal of Hyotei Gakuen, Mr. Atobe." The priest announced solemnly. Mrs. Atobe broke down in tears once more. I bowed my head in silent prayer.

Make sure he never finds out.

And I pray that he would never find out.

For the day he found out, would be the same day he would lie on his deathbed.

"I will avenge him, naa Kabaji?"

And I replied in the only way I knew how.

"Usu."

fin.

Notes:

Kabaji killed Atobe's dad under someone's orders. His true identity must be kept hidden.
