Marius is inspired by David Thaxton (no, really, I would like to know how he had been in the part, he is my all-time favorite Enjolras)
A very young girl was standing in the shadows.
She saw Marius, lit by the torch he was holding: reddish blonde hair and handsome face, no coat, just white shirt, tie and vest, with tricolor in his waist. "Go back or I will blow the barricade!"
"Then you will blow yourself too!" one of the soldiers shouted.
"So I shall!" came short answer.
The soldiers retreated and Enjolras, climbing up carefully, took the torch. Marius jumped from the barricade.
"You came!" Courfeyrac embraced his friend.
"Who is the leader here?"
"You are now," Enjolras answered in his laconic way.
.
Cosette was in the street, smiling to the old couple and giving coins to them; she was sitting under the white roses, her chestnut-red hair glittering in the sun...
"Monsieur Marius!"
A familiar voice woke Marius from his short sleep. He rose just in time to catch Éponine, who stumbled from the darkness and fell.
Her chest was wet from blood.
Marius took her in his arms. "Éponine, you are wounded. I will carry you to Combeferre..."
"No, don´t. Soldier was shooting you: I put my hand in front of his musket and his bullet went through me. I am dying! This barricade is a death trap; neither of us will survive. I am so happy!" She indeed smiled. "Please, kiss my forehead when I´m gone. I will feel it. Even though... even though you think I am filthy and disgusting, don´t you?"
"Éponine..."
Éponine closed her eyes and for a moment Marius thought that she was dead. Then her eyes were opened again and she said with a smile: "And I think, Monsieur Marius, that I am a little bit in love with you."
Then she ceased to breath.
