To some (most,) the relationship between Maya Fey and Diego Armando seemed strange. Those who did not truly know them liked to joke that she was only with him to have someone to buy her burgers. In all honesty, it was less a matter of Maya being with Diego, and more of Diego being with Maya. He liked her. He loved her. And more importantly, he needed her. It wasn't a love-drunk sweethearts kind of need, but a more instinctive kind. He needed her to remind him that, no, he wasn't a demon and yes, he still had purpose. He needed her to remind him that moving on doesn't have to mean forgetting, and that it was okay to keep a picture of lost loved ones in the living room. She helped him be happy, because, at the end of the day, her happiness was his.

To an extent.

He liked talking about Mia, but not for too long and never to the point of tears. He didn't despise Wright, but idle chit chat was more than enough. And though he didn't tire of their many conversations about what to name soon-to-be-born fetuses, he did grow weary of her numerous hints of which names, or name, more accurately, she liked better.

"Something that starts with an "M." She always began that way. Innocent and wanting to keep with tradition.

"Like what, Kitten?"

"Weeell, there's Mina."

He groaned.

"Or Mira."

Wait for it.

"You know, maybe we should do away with the middle man."

Here it comes.

"How about three letters instead of four, huh?"

Ugh.

"Like, uh, oh, I don't know...Mia?"

Bingo.

"Kitten..."

"Yeah, yeah, I can't hold on to the old grinds of yesterday's fresh pot. That's what you were going to say, right?"

He didn't say anything, because he was shocked she knew his sayings so well.

"Didn't think I was paying attention, didya? Heehee!"

He groaned again.

Author's Note: A week after starting this, I realized I had no idea what I was doing. But, I need to get it out of my system. Also, I promised Ari Moriarty. So, here it is. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone, as this is my first pairing-related story.
