"Robbie I don't think this is working."

Retired Detective Inspector Robbie Lewis turned to find his current partner holding the only other member of the Lewis-Hobson household while standing at the door to their atrium.

"He's done it again." Laura Hobson said setting Monty down to watch the cat stretch then go lay in the sun at that back door. "If this keeps up Lyn will never allow Bobby to stay for an hour let alone days."

Chuckling he stood following her into the kitchen. She went to cupboard under the sink and pulled out some cleaner and rubber gloves.

"This time he went right on Bobby's bed. I don't think I'll get it clean or that stink out before Lyn gets here."

"Laura it's just going to take some time for him to get used to the place." He said grabbing her arm. "I'll do it."

He could tell she was on edge. Laura Hobson wasn't one to be out of sorts. She had tried to hide it but as with other things you learn from living with someone he could tell she needed him at the moment.

Setting the cleaner down along with the gloves he pulled her into his arms. Not bothering to stop his wide smile as her arms went around his waist. He'd really missed having someone to take care of.

"A bit of cat pee isn't going to stop our Lyn. Or Bobby."

"But there are several other rooms in the house." She said looking up at him. "I just don't understand why he keeps picking that room."

He couldn't resist leaning down to kiss her before responding. She sighed heavily against his lips as he went to pull back. Holding her tighter he said against her hair, "Laura is something else the matter? Tell me what it is love."

Not saying anything she moved back taking his hand to pull him into the living room, motioning for him to sit beside her.

"I'm nervous. I've never felt this nervous before. Not even when I was sitting for my finals. Robbie what do I know about taking care of a child? I can't even get the cat to use the litter box."

"Is that all?" he said smiling at her, laughing as he touched her cheek.

She pushed his hand away. Cleary agitated at his response. "Is that all? Really Robbie this isn't time for joking. Did you not hear what I said? Lyn is going to let her son stay here for a fortnight."

He took her face in his hands, watching as her eyes watered. He kissed her then enveloped her in his arms. "Oh pet you'll do fine. Lyn trusts you. I trust you."

"But everything has to be perfect." She said against his chest.

"It will be. It will." He repeated hoping to reassure her.

She fiddled with the button on his shirt. "I'm sorry I'm being so ridiculous."

"You aren't. You're just better with dead bodies."

"Oh Robbie." She started laughing.

Moving so she was facing him he laughed alongside her.

"Pet it will be all right. Bobby will have the best time and want to spend the entire trip with his Nana. He'll forget I exist. I'll bet any 3 year old would be charmed by you."

"Charmed by me? I doubt it. Lately you've gotten a quite the silver tongue."

"That's just you rubbing off on me."

She stood pulling him up. Kissing him hard she then began to lead him to their bedroom.

"Laura what about the . . ." he said pointing to the cleaner and gloves.

"We'll leave Monty to do it. For now I want you to rub some on me."
