Vikram Mahajan looked up from his papers as the newest addition to the team entered the bullpen. The rookie was a young Hispanic woman who had recently transferred from vice. Her clothing consisted of a white blouse, and crisp black slacks, completely professional, yet even with such attire she was very obviously beautiful, swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated beautiful. Her name was Ariana Sanchez and she was going to be partnered with senior detective Ray Cauvanaugh. However, at the moment, something other than her beauty kept Mahajan's eyes on her.
As soon as she'd entered the bullpen, she'd done what few rookies dared to do, few intelligent ones anyway. She'd immediately made a beeline for the desk of Louis Fitch, senior detective and what most rookies considered a nightmare. He was the kind of man who was brutally honest and had a termperment that could make the devil back down. Mahajan was sure Sanchez would be transferred out by noon.
"She's dead," Mahajan whispered to his partner Jesse Longford.
"How long do you think it will take?" Longford asked as the two men prepared for the storm.
By now, Sanchez was in front of Fitch's desk. "Hello," she flashed a brilliant smile.
Fitch looked up from his papers, about to snap at her, but something changed when he saw her smile. Next he did something that shocked his coworkers,e xcept for Sanchez. He smiled back, "May I help you woth something?"
Mahajan and Longford exchanged shocked looks, saying this was odd for their coworker was an understatement.
Sanchez, however was completely unaware of what she'd achieved and effortlessly answered Fitch's inquiry, "Can you tell me where Detective Cauvanaugh's desk is? I'm his new partner, Ariana Sanchez."
"It's right over there," Fitch pointed towards a desk a short distance away.
"Thank you," Sanchez smiled again and turned towards the desk before stopping, "Wait, I didn't catch your name."
Fitch looked almost embarrassed at forgetting to introduce himself," Fitch, Louis Fitch," he extedned his hand to shake Sanchez's.
She took his hand and shook it, a warm, firm, unafraid grip, "It's been a pleasure to meet you. Is it okay if I call you Lou?"
That had to be the final straw, Mahajan was sure that Fitch would storm out of the room immediately to complain to their boss and have the daring rookie transferred,
However, Fitch would surprise his coworkers yet again. Instead, he got this kind of dazed look on his face,"That would be fine."
Mahajan and Longford exchanged the shocked looks that had become so common in the past few minutes yet again.
"How long do you think it's gonna be before he asks her out?" Longford asked.
"He won't, he doesn't like her, he's probably just acting weird due to some bad food or something." Mahajan was in total denial.
"You're right, he's a professional like us. He doesn't crush on coworkers." Longford seemed to agree with Mahajan.
However, three years later both men attended the wedding.
