Dying Dream

//Prologue

…And then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever.

A bliss that was not to last. A bliss that lay before the infernal torrents of hell and the raging tempests of the heavens. The eye before the storm has yet to come.

I was running, my footsteps resonating against the concrete, my satin dress gliding over the ground. If my heart could beat, it would be in a flurry now, and if my skin was not like diamond, it may very well burst through my chest.

The dark corridor seemed to have no end. I gave frantic looks backward, only to peer into the looming darkness. The darkness that seemed to follow me, that seemed to tighten its grasp on me with every step I took. It was just me, and my quick gasps of air. This silence, this solitude, this emptiness, was not soothing.

I turned a corner, and my foot splashed in a puddle. The splashing echoed along the hall, playing a melancholy symphony within this void. Laughter rang out. Laughter was the response to the echo, to my escape. Dark, wretched, omniscient chortles, filled with the blackest evil. Caius's voice rang in my ear, tormenting my mind and soul.

I doubled my pace, the walls no more than a blur now. Tears started to stream down my face, as I began to comprehend the sheer integrity of despair I faced. The glistening drops whipped past my face, only to disappear into the all-consuming darkness, their light diminished. My eyes are wide with fear, almost driven to insanity. Life was perfect, and now it was about to plunge into the depths of hell. Life could be so cruel. So mind-crushingly, heartbreakingly cruel.

My left foot caught on a protruding pipe. I feel to the floor, my cold cheek resting upon the concrete. "Two left feet" as Jacob would say. The tears continued. Jacob would cease to exist. Edward would cease to exist. And Renesmee. My baby, oh my dear baby, would also fade away from my existence. I lay there, in my silent agony, without a single ray of hope, without a single hand of aid, waiting for my fate to claim me.

The footsteps drew nearer. The footsteps of a victor, showing no fear, no doubt. Only confidence. Confidence in his dominance over his prey. Caius leaned down, sneering his black smile, unable to hide his true essence. His lips smacked in anticipation, and his icy hand snaked towards my head, caressing my hair, his other hand tightening around his silver orb. The flame briefly lit and was quickly extinguished. The end was near.

"Please Caius...please..."

The words dripped with desperation, and barely left my mouth.

His smile widened, the white of his teeth visible now.

His hand tightened around my head, and with one quick, decisive pull, it was over.

Nothingness. No pain. No anger.

Nothing.
