"Mom, I'm Scared.", Katara said, trembling as the Fire Nation soldier stood over her mother.
"Go find your dad sweetie. I'll handle this.", Kya said, trying to calm her daughter.
Within a second Katara had run out of the hut, towards the battle field, where she knew her father would be. "Dad! Dad! Please, I think Mom's in trouble! There's a man in our house!", Katara called out once she spotted him.
"Kya!", Hakoda yelled, then quickly followed his daughter back to their igloo.
As they entered, Hakoda was shocked to see his wife's lifeless and burned body on the ground. Katara fell to her knees, as tears rolled down her cheeks. Within a minute of their arrival, the two soon heard cheers from outside, the invaders had left, and as far as everyone else knew there had been no casualties.
"Hakoda they've le-", Bato said as he entered, but stopped when he saw what had happened. After a moment, he spoke again. "Hakoda I'm-"
"Are there any other casualties.", Hakoda interupted, knowing he had to be strong for both his children and his tribe.
"A few homes will need to be rebuilt, but other than that everyone should be fine.", Bato said.
"Good.", Hakoda said weakly, happy for the people who had made it out alive, but feeling ashamed that he had been unable to protect the love of his life, and that he had allowed Katara to see her mother like this. "Return to the other, and make sure Sokka remains with my mother until I can speak with him."
"Of course.", Bato said before leaving.
Looking back towards his daughter, who now silently wept, Hakoda kneeled down to her, he held her close, attempting to comfort her. "I'm so sorry Katara, but ev-"
Katara remembered very little after that, the feeling of pain and anger, as well as flashes of what she could only describe as some kind of storm.
"Katara wake up it's only a bad dream.", Kanna said, shaking her granddaughter, while she thrashed the small tent.
After a moment, Katara opened her eyes, and sat up panting. Looking around Katara realized it had only been a bad memory and that she was safe. She ran her fingers through her hair, before looking at her clearly concerned Gran Gran. "Sorry if I woke you.", Katara said, hoping that she wouldn't ask about her dream.
"There is no need to apologize Katara, but what was this about?", Kanna asked, placing a hand on her granddaughter's shoulder.
"It was...It was about the day Mom died.", Katara said quietly.
Kanna then held her grandaughter close, knowing how much Katara misses her mother.
"The other girls should be up soon, I should get started today's work.", Katara said once they separated.
"That would be wise.", Kanna said.
A minute later Katara was gone and Kanna began to examine the blanket Katara had been using, there wasn't too much damage, only a few scorch marks, Katara had failed to notice. Kanna would be able to repair the damage easily before Katara notices.
