Azula looked at the betrothal necklace in her hand. It was silly really. She had heard Ty Lee stating years ago that if someone would propose to her, she wanted them to give her a Fire Nation betrothal necklace like they did in the Water Tribe. Azula had carved it herself, and she felt so uncertain when she looked at it. It was far from perfect, it made her feel so uneasy. She heard Ty Lee's giggling approaching and she quickly hid the necklace in her pocket. She crossed her arms and tried to look as normal as possible as Ty Lee rounded the corner. Azula's heart skipped a beat. She was walking with her Kiyoshi Warrior friends. Ty Lee waved at her and Azula just nodded. "Azula!" Ty Lee yelled and jumped at her, hugging her hard. Azula returned the hug but wanted it to be over fast. She couldn't let Ty Lee feel her fast heartbeat.
"Would you please excuse us?" Azula told the Kiyoshi Warriors. They nodded and said their goodbyes before walking off, Ty Lee looking slightly confused.
"Did you want to tell me something?" Ty Lee asked and Azula melted at the acrobat's cute voice. Spirits...this girl.
"Y-Yes" Azula stuttered and Ty Lee immediately noticed Azula's odd behavior. She had never seen her friend this caught off guard. She knew Azula had something important to tell her, she let her playful personality go and instead felt completely serious. Azula could tell Ty Lee had noticed she was nervous. Azula tried to find the right words to say but it was impossible, the acrobat was doing things to her that she had never experienced before. She wanted to propose right here... they hadn't even dated, but Azula didn't have time for games. She wanted to settle things now. Azula was nervous of how Ty Lee would react, did she have feelings for her at all? Azula was certain that she did. They had had some close-calls a few times, almost kissing. Azula smirked at the thought and reached for the necklace as Ty Lee stared at her with anticipative eyes.
"Turn around" Azula commanded, Ty Lee wanted to question her but the kind certainty in Azula's voice made her obey. She turned around, not sure what to expect. Azula grabbed the necklace and smiled as she put it around Ty Lee's neck.
"Be my bride, Ty Lee. I love you" Azula confessed to the acrobat's back. It was easier to say it when she wasn't looking into those beautiful brown-gray eyes.
Azula waited for Ty Lee to turn around and thank her, but the acrobat was still standing with her back against her. Azula raised an eyebrow, she impatiently grabbed Ty Lee's shoulders and turned her around. She then met two watery eyes and Azula felt herself panicking. What if Ty Lee didn't want to marry her? She couldn't say no, not to a princess. What if Azula was forcing her childhood friend into something? Of course she was. She was a monster after all.
"I get it...you don't want it" Azula sighed and looked down. Ty Lee then shook her head and smiled as she grabbed the princess hands. "No, no. I'm just shocked, that's all" Ty Lee explained. Azula's heart lurched as Ty Lee leaned in to kiss her. Azula took that as a yes.
