Yuzu the genius. I think Yuzu often gets the short end of things when it comes to her smarts. Despite her disinterest in school, she can perform tests and can make the top 100. I wouldn't put it past Yuzu to have some amazing talent that only a few people know about.
Super fluff. One shot.
Yuzu walked about the school waiting for Mei to get done with her student council meetings. Usually she tries to be out of the prison as soon as possible, thus never really saw the entire school. And with winter in full bloom, the school looked prettier. But as she moved from hallway to hallway she gained sense of pride for how big and beautiful the school actually was. She turned down the hallway and saw through one of the windows of a classroom a grand piano.
Yuzu perked up, it had been a while since Yuzu saw the giant instrument, and even played one for that matter. She turned the knob of the door and found that it was unlocked.
This must be a practice room for the choir kids…
Her hand brushed the keys of the piano delicately, careful not to play a note quite yet. She looked around when it was apparent that no one was in the room with her she sat down and adjusted the seat. She took a moment to set her hand on the keys.
Breath in…
Yuzu took a deep breath and began playing 'Like Someone in Love' by Bill Evans.
Yuzu liked all kinds of piano music, whether it was jazz or classical or covers of current pop music. She wished she could play them all at one point when she was younger. But just sometimes other things in life just take precedence. It's part of growing up she concluded.
But no matter what would happen, at the end of the day her fingers would never forget. A smile crept on her face and she closed her eyes as she continued to play. She forgot how happy playing made it, almost as much as her favorite person in the entire world made her feel. Just like someone in love.
Yuzu was so lost in the song, so focused on the sounds, she hadn't realized that she left the door cracked open, and that the song echoed throughout the halls.
A few people listened to the distant sound as the snow gently fell to the ground, it was almost the perfect song for this weather.
However, despite the few who were content with listening, only one of them searched for the sound, looking to see who was still on school property when all club activity today was cancelled.
Mei walked to the music room, determined to find out who was undermining school rules. She stopped cold to see it was the blond. No surprise she was the one breaking school rules, but Mei watched the blond with wide lavender eyes. She had no idea that Yuzu could play, or could even play so beautifully.
The soft smile on Yuzu's face was so beautiful, the only light from the room coming from the windows managed to light up the whole room still. Mei had no idea what song was playing, she didn't know anything about music whatsoever, it wasn't something her logical mind could really grasp. But Yuzu, Yuzu understood it perfectly.
Yuzu's playing slowed and got quieter showing that the song was ending soon. Mei quietly stepped forward towards Yuzu. Slowly Yuzu looked up and opened her eyes to look at Mei.
Mei caught her breath. The song still played in her head, the scenery in the background, and the bright green eyes of beautiful blond had made time stop for her.
"M- Mei?" Yuzu stuttered standing up and struggling to get away from the piano. The sudden sound of her name was enough to snap Mei out of her moment.
"Yuzu… When?..." Mei asked walking towards her girlfriend
"N-no!" Yuzu unsuccessfully lied. "I was just… Just playing around. Someone else was here…" Yuzu continued to stammer.
Mei pushed Yuzu back against the piano. "You know it's pretty useless to lie to me. Even if I didn't see you, you're still a bad liar." Mei furrowed her eye brows looking down at Yuzu's bright green eyes. Why in the world would she ever want to lie about something so amazing…?
"O-ok! I started when I was really young… I went to a concert and saw this lady performing and just loved it…" Yuzu never forgot that concert. She was dragged into going with her mother, but she never once regretted it after going.
"You never told me you could play…" Mei said feeling a little sad about having such a thing not being mentioned.
"It's not a big deal." Yuzu said trying to get around her girlfriend.
"Why haven't you said anything about it?" Mei asked moving over for the blond.
"Mm, just never really crossed my mind." For the first time Yuzu told a lie that Mei didn't noticed. Yuzu yawned and walked away. "Come on let's go home before it gets too cold."
Mei frowned, something felt off about the whole piano thing, but not enough for her to push the issue any farther. If anything, Mei just wanted to listen to Yuzu play again. The reasoning for Yuzu's demeanor didn't seem such a big deal anymore, all Mei could still hear was Yuzu's playing.
