A/N: Mischief Night is October 30th. And I have a 20-year love affair with Sam the Sham's "Lil Red Riding Hood" to thank for this.
Who was that walking home alone from the Hearst campus? Why it was a red-cloaked Veronica Mars. And the sheriff just couldn't resist.
"Miss Mars," Lamb grinned as he slowed his cruiser to drive beside her as she walked. "Sure you should be walking home alone at this time of night? It's Mischief Night, you really should know better. Unless of course you're lookin' to meet up with the big bad wolf."
Veronica sighed. Looking at his grin she was sure he had already found her. "Don't you have some kids to arrest for TP-ing someone's house or sticking some unsuspecting girl's hand into what was supposed to be a bowl of peeled grapes or something?"
"That's what deputies are for. So, are you going to tell me what you're doing walking at this time of night, on one of the last nights a girl your age, undressed as you are, should be or not?"
Undercover for yet another assignment, of course he would notice her lack of skirt first. "I'm going home, Lamb."
"Well then I guess the duty falls to me to make sure you get to Grandma's - I mean Keith's place safe and sound."
"Subtlety, what a lovely Iwolf/I trait," she smirked over at him.
Lamb almost laughed. "Come on, Mars. I'm just trying to make sure you don't get chased here. I mean, what kind of sheriff would I be if I left you by your lonesome out here where anything could happen?"
"As ineffectual as usual."
"Exactly," he grinned. "Even so-called bad sheriffs can be good."
With that Veronica sped her pace and scoffed. Talking to him was getting her nowhere. Clearly he had gotten the idea that she was his own personal Little Red Riding Hood from somewhere.
II liked Dorothy better. Even if it isn't so much a yellow brick road I take when I have to see him. Either way, he's still a wolf despite his sheep - sheriff - suit./I
"You'd get home sooner if you let me drive you."
"But then I'd have to be in a car with you. No thanks."
"Okay then. Guess I'll just have to try to keep satisfied to drive close by your side. And who knows, Veronica, maybe by the time we get to your place you'll see things my way."
"No chance," she scoffed.
Lamb was a wolf, pure and simple despite his sheep - sheriff - suit. Veronica knew that well. She also knew the story as well as most anyone. That it ended with the wolf getting no less than a taste of Red. It was Mischief Night, it was no secret their banter was their form of foreplay and Keith was gone for the night.
Within the hour she was finding out for herself just how good bad sheriffs could be.
