Welcome back to Sonic Rantfictions, where I, the marvelous MysteriousManPerson, posts rants on a fanfiction website. Today, however, I want to do something a bit different. I want to do a response editorial! Now, this isn't a true installment, which is why I label this installment as episode 2.5 rather than 3. This is just for me to answer questions, clarify points, address mistakes, and allow open conversation and discussion about these kinds of topics.

Sonic the Dovakiin says: "The thing is, a lot of Sonic fans from my generation (Sonic 1 FTW!) are adults now, but we still love Sonic the Hedgehog. We just can't write 'kiddy' because we can't think that way anymore. I don't think a little darkness does Sonic too much harm, so long as it's handled in a mature manner."

I completely agree with this. As a huge SatAM fan myself, I don't mind Sonic being dark, but I think there needs to be a balance between the grit and the comedy so it doesn't become so un-Sonic-like. I do agree that the examples Sonic the Dovakiin gave, like Chaos and SatAM, are great dark moments in Sonic history. What I meant by "gritty" in my Gritty the Edgehog episode was that too many times fanfictions fall into the "realistic" trap. Sonic characters aren't meant to have abusive parents or get pregnant during their teen years because that would be stupid. Sonic can be PG-13, but Sonic can't be R.

Christian Wolf27 says: "I think fan characters created by people should get some spotlight, what do you think or am i dead wrong?"

I actually do plan on doing an episode on fan characters in the future, so, without spoiling too much, fan characters aren't bad in concept. Fan characters are usually bad in execution. Too many times have we seen these bland Mary-Sues and Gary-Stues roam around the internet and they've become an entire cliché within themselves.

Guest says: "What I hate the most I'd when they make the characters I see "sonadow" it makes me want to throw up!What is wrong with those people!?That isn't normal!"

Shipping is a touchy subject. So much, in fact, that I'm beginning to question if the topic of dumb couples should get an episode or not. The problem is not as much the shippings themselves (although I will agree that there's a lot of stupid ones), but more of the overall attitude of the shippers in question. Too many times have I heard, "I hope Amy gets killed off," or, "I want to kill Sally." That's something I'd do an episode on, but I doubt I'd do an episode on couples I think are stupid. It's not because I don't like the idea. I think it is a fantastic idea. I just don't want to risk sounding bias or hypocritical. Maybe I'm just way too skeptical, and maybe I'll man up and do an episode on it, but as of right now, it's about as likely as Mother 3's U.S. release.

So that concludes my response editorial. The part of the show where I call out myself because "i has lo self-estem." Cue the Linkin Park music!

Oh, and I'm also working on the new episode right now and it might be coming out tonight. Ssssssshhhhhhhhhh...
