I own nothing.

'Because I love you'

"I don't understand Logan, can't you stay for just a little longer?" she drew a shaky breath.

He sighed, "The Professor found a new piece of information 'bout my past. I'm heading back to Alberta kid."

Rogue covered her eyes; there was no way that he was going to see her cry. He had just returned and now there he was, sitting on Scott's motorcycle, strapping his duffel bag into place. "Don't leave me alone here," she was trying to be strong. 'Don't be stupid. Now that he sees you like this he'll never come back' the little voice nipped at the back of her mind.

Logan reached around his neck and removed his dogtags, holding, holding them out for her, "Here, keep 'em safe."

Her hand wavered as she stretched to retrieve them but she paused.

"What's wrong, you don't want them?" he sounded hurt.

"I just gave them back to you three days ago. I don't want this endless cycle of you returning and then going anymore!" she was crying now but didn't care. He had broken her heart into pieces and now it was like he was slowly cutting those pieces with his adumantium blades.

"Rogue," he paused, "Marie," he touched her arm, "I'm sorry but…"

"-Of course you're sorry," she whispered, "You're always busy being 'sorry' and leaving so quickly that you never notice how much it hurts me. You're killing me Logan!"

He looked confused but his expression was quickly replaced by anger. "If I'm hurting you so much why do you keep coming back? It's who I am; it's what I do best," he snarled bitterly, "Why bother putting up with it?"

"Because I love you!" she didn't mean to shout, she hadn't meant to say it at all but she did it and now she was sure those four words would ruin her relationship with her best friend forever.

Logan stared at her: nostrils flaring and a wild look flashed in his eyes as his heart rate declined. He didn't say anything, not a word. Even the sound of his boots across the gravel went unheard as he approached her.

Their gazes met: his feral, hazel eyes looking deep into her soulful emeralds. And suddenly he was kissing her…

They broke apart and he grinned at her. "Really?"

Unable to speak she bit her lip and looking to the ground, nodded.

Logan grabbed his duffel bag off the motorcycle, "I think the past can wait awhile," he slipped his hand around her waist and they walked back towards the mansion, "I'd rather focus on the present, Darlin'."
