March 31
Cindy entered the morgue to find Lindsay and Claire hovering over a body on the table. "Hey guys," she said cheerfully.
"Hmm." Was the response from Claire, Lindsay not even bothering with that much.
"Oh come on. You aren't still mad are you? That was over a week ago."
"Yeah well it was mean." Lindsay pouted.
"It was kinda funny." Cindy said shyly. "Until Denise went rogue and added the bit at the end. That was a little over the top," she added with a smile.
"Well, some of us have grown past silly pranks." Claire informed her without looking up from the body.
"Right," Cindy answered unconvinced. "Which is why I'm staying locked in my apartment tomorrow." She looked to Lindsay, "and after the stunt you pulled last year, I'm not opening my door."
Lindsay let a small laugh escape, "Jill did say the look on your face was priceless."
"Okay, well, I've grown past pranks then," Claire tried to convince her.
"So I'm not going to find any fake blood or limbs around here." Claire's head popped up and she appeared caught. "That's what I thought. I come in here tomorrow and you act all distracted and what, cut off your own hand."
Claire stared at her, was she really that predicable, "how did you know?"
"Please. If I had all these toys, that's what I would do," Cindy said with a mischievous smile.
"Well, damn." Claire said as she went back to work.
As soon as Claire finished the autopsy and covered the body Jill appeared through the door. "Perfect timing," Claire greeted her as she removed her gloves.
Jill joined her friends in the room and looked at Cindy. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at the airport?"
"How stupid do you think I am?" Cindy asked with a scoff.
"What do you mean?" Jill asked innocently.
"I'm supposed to show up at Denise's parents' anniversary party?" Cindy responded as she crossed her arms and studied Jill.
"You are really paranoid." Lindsay added to the conversation, which Cindy answered with a glare.
"I can't believe you think I would set you up like that. Especially considering Denise is my boss." Jill said with some hurt in her voice.
"You guys are unreal. I'm supposed to believe that she would send me a ticket to come join her without even calling." Cindy studied her friends, who were all looking very sincere. She turned her attention back to Jill. "Where's the prank anyway? When I show up at the party and Denise kills me, or when I get arrested at the airport for a counterfeit ticket?"
Jill moved forward and looked Cindy directly in the face. "I swear I did not send you that ticket."
Cindy studied her and couldn't pick up any hint of a lie. Then she looked to her other friends and they both swore to the same innocence. After a moments contemplation she moved toward the door, before leaving she turned back, "if I don't come back my death is on your hands."
With their friend now gone the three remaining women moved into Claire's office. "So am I going to have to go break her out of airport jail?" Lindsay asked.
"No, it's a real ticket," Jill informed her with a smile.
Claire shook her head, "I can't believe you actually bought her a ticket to Sacramento."
"I didn't. Denise did."
"So it's not a prank?" Lindsay questioned.
"Oh it's a prank, just not mine," Jill laughed. Then she decided to clue in her friends. "Denise has something planned on that end."
"Ooh, Cindy created a monster." Claire laughed.
"I have a feeling this is the last April fools we will ever have to worry about," Jill said smugly.
"Good." Lindsay sighed as she sank onto the couch. "However, as much as I hate this day, I would love to be a witness."
A/N: And before anyone asks, no I don't have a third part. You'll just have to use your own imagination as to what Denise may have planned.
