He came in on Komamaru-taichou's back, covered in fresh blood. It ran down his face, so thick that it covered the 69 tattoo on his cheek. His arms were also scratched up. It looked like the attacker intended on making the death slow and painful, letting the blood slowly pour from him. It was like the damage done by the people in her nightmares.
She looked around for her taichou, unable to find her. She was probably tending to Kenpachi-taichou...again. She would've asked someone else from the Fourth Division, but the injuries were too serious. She wasn't sure if she could handle it herself, but she would have to try, his life depended on her.
When he woke up he felt something heavy on his chest. Lifting his head as much as he could, he saw the sleeping Isane Kotetsu. She seemed to have collapsed there not too long ago.
He began shaking her gently, trying to wake her but not wanting to disturb her. She looked so peaceful compared to her normally worried appearance. Opening her eyes slowly, she gazed warily at him. There was an awkward silence between the two.
"Good morning" he whispered. Her face went pink.
"Oh..I'm sorry...I must've passed out" she said frantically. She rushed out of the room before he could say anything else. He didn't see much of her for the rest of the day; she was busy with paperwork.
Isane had woken up from yet another nightmare, this one was the worst she'd had for a long time. No matter how many time she tried to fall asleep, the gruesome image of those closest to her being slain would etch itself into her mind.
She couldn't go to her taichou because Unohana was with Hinamori-fukutaichou. Isane began pacing around the room, unable to do anything. She finally to go outside to clear her head.
She stumbled back when she saw who was outside her room. Hisagi-fukutaichou was laying on the porch, gazing at the moon. Assuming he didn't notice her, she began backing into her room.
"Isane, wait" he called. She flinched at the sound of her name. He lazily gestured for her to sit next to him.She slowly sat down, feeling unsure of herself.
"You should be resting" she said, trying to cover her nervousness.
"You worry too much. That's probably why you're such an insomniac" he said, sitting up. They gazed into each other's eyes, Isane feeling herself blush.
"Umm...have you s-seen my t-taichou?" she stuttered, breaking eye contact.
"Are you alright? You sound cold" he said, removing the blanket which was wrapped around his shoulders.
"I-I-I...um...arigato" she said, snatching the blanket. He shrugged, laying back down.
"The moon looks beautiful tonight" he said, trying to make small talk.
"How did you get those wounds?" she blurted out, surprising both herself and Hisagi.
"Those? Well...it was someone in the Eleventh Division" he said.
"What? Was it Ikkaku?" she asked. He shook his head.
"Zaraki Kenpachi?!" she asked. He shook his head again, sighing.
"It was..." he paused, unsure of whether or not he should say it. She looked at him curiously, making her look much younger. "Yachiru" he said quickly.
"Yachiru-fukutaichou?!" she exclaimed.
"Shh...not so loud..." he whispered. "I wouldn't let her tattoo me" he explained, a deep shade of pink spreading across his features.
"And she did that?" she asked, horrified.
"She challenged me. If she won she could tattoo me...she won..." he explained. He slid his kimono shoulder down, revealing a colorful rabbit picture. How did I not notice this? she asked herself, taking a mental picture.
"It's very pretty" she lied, "very artistic."
"That damn brat plays dirty" he snapped, clenching his fists.
