This story is based on characters from the Anime SLAYERS. I, in no way shape or form, claim them as my own. The story is mine, though. All mine. OHohohooHOOohohohO ) Anyways, if you liked it, email me at but no flames, please. It'd break my heart. Oh, by the way, this is a Lina/Zel fic. I think they're so kawaii together.

NEED

He watched her; heard her sighs of despair at night when she thought they were all asleep. He could hear… and see her pain increase daily. But what could he do?

She was beautiful… and powerful. She didn't need him, nor would she want his help. Who would want help from him!

And yet, all he wanted was to hold her and comfort her, to show how much he loved her. He would never let her see how much he cared. Besides, who would want the hideous rock that he was. Who could ever love him!

She sighed, closing her eyes, trying to hold back the tears that sought to flow. How had she ended up like this? All alone……

They only saw the façade, the ever-happy and optimistic girl. The treasure hunter, the sorceress, the heroine; she had it all……

but all she ever wanted was……

Why did his life have to be cursed? Why did he have to have this body of stone? All he wanted was…

Love, absolute, undying love. To be wrapped in strong arms; to hear his silky tenor voice say how much he loved her. But why would he want her?

She was short and small-breasted. She was the 'Bandit Killer,' the 'Dragon Slayer.' And the 'Chaos Child.' Evil followed in her footsteps. What man would want that? But still, all she wanted was……

Her.

Him.

They watched each other across the fire, never truly seeing what could be, or what they both yearned to be. Nearby, the blonde swordsman slept, sword wrapped tightly in his arms, snoring. The younger purple-haired sorceress stirred restlessly in her bedroll, unaware of the silent suffering of her fellow travelers.

And in the darkness, two red-slitted eyes looked upon the blue-stoned chimera and his fiery redheaded sorceress in silent mocking laughter.

They will never see. I won't let them.

And the eyes of a mazoku vanished into the night, as the dying embers of the fire saw two lost souls drift into the world of dreams.
