Do you see, Lily?

Do you see how he looks at you like that? Do you see how his eyes never leave your face when you're in the room?

Do you see how he protects you? Do you see how he can never stand by and let anyone hurt you?

Do you see how his smile drops when you say no? Do you see how he's always a little bit disappointed? A little bit hurt?

Do you see how he picks himself back up again? Do you see how he settles into a steady resolve to keep trying? Because you're worth it.

Do you see how he's getting closer? Do you see how he's slowly capturing your heart? Do you see your smile in the mirror? The one that glows these days?

Do you see his eyes light up when you finally say yes? Do you see how he's so happy?

Do you see how you're happy? With him?

Do you see the headlines? Do you see that the world around your own is in chaos?

Did you see the letter, Lily? Did you see how they went? Did you see what happened to them? Gone.

Do you miss them, Lily?

Do you see how he's still there? Do you see how it's almost a little better when he is? Almost.

Do you see the tears in the mirror? Do you see how broken you are?

Do you see how he can help you? Do you see how he'd do anything for you?

Do you see how he loves you?

You don't.

You say it might be best if you two broke up.

It takes him a while, but he agrees. For your sake.

Do you see, Lily? Do you see how you hurt him?

You turn away, and his face breaks. You don't even know. That you've left him. Broken-hearted.

A/N: While brainstorming for a few different Lily/James fics, a few lines from this popped into my mind. I wasn't entirely sure how I'd use them, but I wrote them down. Then, I typed them up and experimented a little and this is what came of it. I've always had the idea that Lily never really knew - in school, at least - just how much James cared about her. And this is kind-of my sentiments of that. I showed it to a friend, unsure of whether or not it could fit into a story. She proposed the idea of it being a stand-alone poem of sorts, so I've decided to give that a go. I'm pretty hazardous when it comes to poetry, really, but I'm surprised at how this came out. I rather like it and hope that some of you enjoyed it as well. :)

P.S. I know that the whole idea of her breaking up with him is kind-of off, but the lines I originally came up with were some of the ending ones, soo... Yeah. Besides, you can imagine a happy ending. Right? ;)
