Prompt #382 from tamingthemuse- Antithesis

Note: From now on most of my tamingthemuse stories will be named as the challenge.

Buffy stared at Spike and Xander as they sat beside each other on the ratty couch Spike had donated to the Magic Box after he moved in with Xander. Which Buffy was still pissed about because Xander hadn't told her about his new relationship. It wasn't that she was jealous, though Spike did have a crush on her first. She understood that. Both Spike and she were fighters. They loved the fight. Even though she said she didn't like it everyone knew it was a lie. She was a slayer it was in her nature.

She watched Xander stole a book from Spike, holding it hostage until Spike gave him a kiss. It didn't take long. Buffy was baffled. How could Spike have had a crush on her and now be with Xander? Spike and Xander had absolutely nothing in common. They were complete opposites. Xander liked science fiction while Spike liked soap operas. Spike could take on six vampires at once while Xander struggled with one. Spike was loyal to Drusilla for over a hundred years while Xander had cheated on Cordelia after only one. She wasn't saying that Xander would be disloyal to Spike but he didn't have the great track record when it came to his love life.

Spike's fingers found themselves tangled in the hairs on the back of Xander's neck, his eyes never leaving the book he was reading. She saw a small smile grace Spike's lips when Xander inched his chair closer. If Xander got any closer he would be sitting on Spike's lap.

Buffy had to look away when one of Spike's and Xander's hands disappeared under the table. It shouldn't have weirded her out, Willow and Tara held hands all the time. It was just that she never thought Spike would be the type of vampire to hold hands and Xander was never one to really show his relationship to others. With Cordelia they hid their relationship for the first half of their involvement. The time that everyone did know about their relationship they still acted like they hated each other.

Xander with Spike was much different. He no longer called him 'impotent', 'bleach head' or 'evil dead'. Instead he called him 'sweetheart' and 'baby'. Spike no longer called Xander 'whelp', 'donut boy' or 'live bait'. Now he called Xander 'pet,' 'luv', 'ducks' and on occasion 'lamb'.

"They are adorable, aren't they?" Willow whispered in Buffy's ear.

Buffy jumped; luckily she didn't draw the attention of the others. She leaned in closer to Willow and whispered, "You don't think it's a little weird?"

Willow tilted her head thinking about it. "I don't think so. It was a surprise at first but did you really think any of us would have a normal relationship? I mean you dated a vampire and I've dated a werewolf and a witch. And how many demons have had their eye on Xander? It was only a matter of time. Besides they are good together. They make each other better."

Willow was right. Spike was nicer now, not just to Xander but to everyone. Also he doesn't complain about the chip as much as he used to. And Spike has helped boost up Xander's confidence. They were both much happier. She looked at the couple one more time. "You're right," Buffy said with a smile. She went back to the book that sat in front of her.
