Prologue

Breath and blood. What beautiful things. So sad though, that soon breathe would be cut off and blood was being wasted all around me. Had I ever taken notice of something so amazing as the way they worked in unison? Giving life to a body that was slowly growing weak and limp. Very soon now, that body would stop all together, breath and blood with it. I could feel the breath scratch my throat, and the blood pump through my aching heart, although through the pain it was oddly pleasant. Maybe, it was the fact that I could feel them there, my body's reassurance that it could keep going, if only for a few moments longer. I could feel parts of my body go numb as blood took leave; the tormented struggle to take one more breath as I gasped. I was running out of time, for me and for everyone else. I couldn't give up. Without the breath I would still have bone, without blood I would still have my heart. And with that, I prayed that my strength and love would be enough to save us all.
