Title: Doomed

Author: Tlazohtzin

It was doomed. From the very beginning it was doomed. And how could it not be? A Water Tribe peasant and a Fire Nation prince. Together? Preposterous! Or was it?Under normal circumstances, the two would have never met. And they nearly didn't. If it wasn't for the actions of a single boy, they would have gone through life ignorant of each other's existence, of both the pain and pleasure it could cause.

Consequently, the young Air Nomad who had indirectly brought them together, loved the waterbending girl as well. Worshiped her, if you will. But like the other Avatars before him, his destiny lay, not in love, but in healing a wounded world. Just like the Avatars before him–and most assuredly the ones after–he would have to come to terms with this.

Duty before love: a dilemma the Northern Water Tribe princess knew far too well. To honor her duty to her heart, or to her people. She had thought that the answer to that was a no-brainer. Her betrothed might not have been the most attentive of suitors, but he was easy on the eyes and all but worshiped the ground her father walked on. A bit arrogant at times, but he had potential. And with little bit of grooming here and there, he could become a great leader, someday. She could grow to love him. She had cared for him as a child, hadn't she?

When the Avatar came, one of his companions changed her life forever. He was a warrior from her sister tribe, in the south. He had traveled the world before meeting her, and knew of things she could only imagine. He talked to her, told her of adventures in faraway lands. He made stupid jokes that were so bad, she couldn't help but laugh. He paid attention to her; had eyes only for her. But when the Fire Navy attacked, duty won, and she gave her life to save her people's–all people's–lives. For her life was nothing in exchange for the Moon Spirit's and for the sake of balance in both worlds. And so was the fate of another doomed couple brought together by the boy Avatar.

So what is it about the Avatar, that makes him the patron of doomed lovers?

Or is war the culprit? Separating lovers before their time.

And can love transcend hate? Class? Only time can tell...

A/N: Hey there! I'm glad to have y'all here! XDDD

I'm sirenalune on lj incase you wanted to hit me up there... (just in case! XD)

This is my first (and hopefully not last) time publishing an Avatar fanfiction/drabble. First drabble really... Any way, feel free to drop a review or something because I'm a review whore!

I had planned on making this a bigger drabble and having it include almost all possible pairings but I don't really have the inspiration to do all of that although the possibility still remains that I might be inclined to do so later on. (so much big words... T-T)

On a lighter note, may I pimp (somebody else's) fanfic? It's Rebuilding from Anonde and it's awesome! I totally recomend it!

Any way! Later dudes! (I am soo from Cali...--;;)

Acknowledgements: I would like to thank flutie, my savior/beta for helping me! Oh, and the livejournal communities: avatarfans, avatar100, and my very own community avatarhotline for help, inspiration, and the beta list respectively. (for more information on the beta list, please contact me through my contact info on my homepage.)

I would also like to thank the wonderful and talented creators of Avatar: the Last Airbender for their world and characters. Without them, this little drabble/fanfiction of mine would be impossible.
