It was August 27th and a crisp wind was blowing up over the sand dunes from the sea. Clearly visible to the human eye was an extravagant long red path, winding through fields and woods. If you knew it well, you would know that it loops itself into a corner of a thick set of lilies. Now threading through a plantation of young maples with great feathery sheets of ferns, the road would dip down into a hollow where a brook flashed out of the woods and just as quickly disappeared back into them.
"Finally! Weather I can deal with, Mum!"squealed a very dramatic Petunia. "Lily better not ruin today."
Lily, who was gazing out the window, was so absorbed in nature and admiring the beauty of the day, that she didn't care what her sister had to say. Lily sighed dreamingly, "It's like magic. I've never seen the sun so golden." Lily mentioned admiringly.
Petunia, who had had enough of her sister's daydreaming, wasn't delighted by the beauty of the day as much. She was much rather interested in her phone conversation with Vernon Dursley, whom she had a major crush on."Mum! Lily is talking about magic again!" yelled Petunia and Lily, snapped out her reverie, and realized she couldn't express herself around her sister like she could around James. Lily sighed. Sometimes she felt as though any James understood her.
"Mum, I was wondering if I had to help you with laundry today." Once she saw her mother's eyebrows raise, she continued. "Can I go out with my...ummm...friend?"Lily asked her mother shyly.
Petunia abruptly ended her phone call and went to her mother, "Mum," she whined. "I thought I was going out not her!"she complained. Their mother, puzzled and indecisive, knew what she wanted to do.
"Petunia, darling, I was wondering if you would help with those yams, dear. That would actually be very helpful, and you've obviously forgotten I have to give them to the Dursley family". Petunia replied with a broad smile on her face, completely forgetting her previous plans,"Sure!"
Later that day, Lily, with a smile on her face and a gleam in her eyes got up to meet James. Near Alstonville at their favorite private meeting spot, Lily found James and they went for a walk in the valley nearby. It was a clear afternoon with blue hazes scarfing the harvest slopes and the gentle winds whispering. They approached an orchard and as Lily met James' eyes, she saw green emeralds instead of those simple eyes. She noticed for the first time that the smile of a person doesn't start and end from the mouth but the eyes. She blushed as she saw that twinkling wink of James' eyes.
After much talking and comforting and doing whatever they would find themselves doing, Lily, unwillingly finally forced herself to walk home. Once she was home she saw Petunia in the living room. As Lily passed through, Petunia surprisingly happily then asked Lily, "How was your day?"
At first Lily was stunned seeing as Petunia never cared for her at all. But all she same she replied dreamingly,"It was magical."
Petunia, who had had a smile on her face, frowned. "Mum! Lily is talking about magic again!"
