Hello and welcome readers! My name is Cowboy Alchemist, and this is my Bleach/Samurai Jack AU crossover story:
"Brave Soul Samurai"
When I mean by AU, I mean that some events will change, but the biggest thing to know is that Ichigo will be replace in the story by my OC Kenny Kurosawa. The hero of my High School DxD/Samurai Jack crossover "The Red Dragon Samurai." For those that haven't read that story, Kenny is the descendent of our favorite time traveling samurai. And with that, Jack's sword is passed down to him to defend the world.
I've been wanting to do a Bleach story for a while now, but was honestly have trouble figuring out what I wanted to do with series. Almost doing a crossover with the Witcher series. I also somewhat inspired by a story challenge by a user named kival737101. His story challenge for Bleach involved having Ichigo being replaced by an already named OC, but that OC would have the power to make any women he found attractive to have sex with him.
…Yeah that wasn't going to happened. If there's going to be sex, it'll be through love, not any other means.
Then I remembered that there was a Samurai Jack comic book series called Quantum Jack, in which Jack explored different dimensions and there're different versions of himself. So, because I was running out of ideas with what to do, I decided to break one of the rules I set for myself (don't repeat a series you've already done) and wrote a story about Kenny Kurosawa in an alternate dimension.
Also, just like I stated in "Heroes of Tomorrow," with the OC replacing Izuku, I'm having Kenny replace Ichigo because it would be difficult to balance the spotlight between the two, and with an OC, I'll have more creative freedom.
All I'm asking is that you have an open mind. This story wasn't an easy decision and I'm working hard to make it a story you all can enjoy.
I don't own anything except the OC (But you knew that). Samurai Jack is created and owned by Genndy Tartakovsky and Bleach is created and owned by Tite Kubo.
And with that out of way, let's get started…..
Book 1: Soul Reaper
Episode 1: Death and the Samurai
1June, 7:13 P.M.
For as long as Kenny Kurosawa could remember, he was able to see ghosts.
It was the nearing the end to another day in Karakura Town, a small town in Japan. The winds were blowing a gentle breeze. The birds were out tweeting as they flew across the orange skies. The sun was going down. And the people were going about their lives and returning home.
"You're dead, punk!" Yelled a thug, charging at Kenny.
POW!
But then he was punched in the face by Kenny's fist. It was so strong that it sent him flying into his friends, who were lying on the ground. Also looking like they were given the beating of a lifetime. They then looked at Kenny, who was the one that gave them the beating.
STOMP!
Startled when Kenny took a menacing stomp towards them. "This guy's a monster! Let's get out of here!" Screamed one of the thugs, before getting up and hightailing it out of there.
"Right, I'm the monster," Kenny said glaring at them. He then used his arm to wipe from blood from his mouth. One of those thugs got him with a punch in the face.
Kenny was a young man at the age of 16, with long black hair that swept down his pale skin and jet-black eyes. His body was tall for someone his age, around 5 ft and 11 in. And he was well fit from years of doing Kendo and material arts. He was wearing the Karakura High School boys' uniform, which consisted of a pair of grey trousers, a white shirt and grey blazer. However, to add his own individuality to the uniform he wore a fingerless pair of black gloves and had black and blue boots.
Kenny turned to the right and looked at a light post. Under it was a glass vast that was filled with flowers. Kenny didn't know all the details, but knew the flowers were left there by the family of a young girl that was killed here. When he saw those thugs about to smash it, Kenny attacked them.
Dropping his fierce scowl, Kenny smiled kindly. "It's okay, you can come out."
A second later, the young girl's ghost appeared.
"I'm sorry you had to see that. Hopefully they didn't show their ugly faces around here again."
The girl smiled gratefully. "Thank you coming to my defense," she said. Her face stained with blood that covered one of her eyes. "I think now I'll finally be able to rest peacefully."
Kenny walked over to the vast and put it up right. "No problem. It's the least I can do.," said Kenny before kneeling down and patted the girls head. This made her giggle. "I'll get you more flowers tomorrow morning. Until then, be at peace."
And with that, the ghost girl disappeared. Just like many of the other ghosts that Kenny had seen. Trying to find peace after their untimely deaths. Maybe it was because his family ran a medic clinic. Maybe it was because they were entrusted with the lives. He can up with so many ideas, and no physiatrist could help explain it, that he just came to accept that he could see those that've passed away.
Maybe that's why he never even thought about the existence of something called a Soul Reaper.
1June, 7:53 P.M.
When Kenny returned home and opened the front door, it was already night and he was hungry. The Kurosawa Clinic wasn't really much to look at. It was a large house that doubled as the clinic in the area.
"I'm home." Kenny said, entering into the living room.
"HEEEEYYYYYYAAAAAAAA!"
POW!
Only for his father to kick him right in the face. Kenny fell to the floor head first and groaned in pain. He then sat up and glared at his father. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?"
His father was Isshin Kurosawa, a tall, muscular man who appeared to be in his forties. He had spiky black hair and brown eyes. He has thin facial hair around his mouth and on his cheeks. As the doctor of the clinic, Isshin usually wore a white lab coat over his otherwise more casual shirt and trousers.
Kenny loved his father, and he knew that Isshin loved him too, but to say that they had a complicated relationship would be putting it lightly. While Kenny could tolerate it when he typically acted in a goofy, energetic, and fun-loving manner, it annoyed him to no ended when Isshin would attack his son all of a sudden for every reason, from being late for a dinner to simply waking him up. All he claimed was it was to make Kenny stronger.
"Because you let your guard down, when you were late for dinner again!" Isshin said standing over his only son.
"Give me a break!" Kenny angrily stood up and got in his father's face. "I was helping a spirit find piece!"
"Silence! Oh, so it's the ghost's fault, eh!?" Isshin retorted as they butted heads, before comically fighting each other. Throwing blurry punches at one another. "Show some discipline! Just because you see spirits and I don't, doesn't make you the boss of this household!"
"Hey, don't blame me! I didn't ask to be born like this!"
As that was going on, Kenny's 12-year-old sister Karen Kurosawa watched from the table as she ate. Compared to her brother, Karen had shorter hair of the same black color that reached just above her shoulders with blue eyes. More often than not, she wore sportswear, with alternative shirts and trainers that gave her a tomboy appearance. The only think that would be considered girly was the white, cartoonish skull hair clip on the left side of her head.
"Hey, knock it off, you two!" She said with a worried expression at first. But then as the punches kept going and landed on Kenny and Isshin, Karen knew it was pointless. "Oh, forget it."
Isshin let out a battle cry as he charged at Kenny. Ready to send a punch that would send his son flying. But then Kenny kicked him in the face, and sent him into the wall. After that was finally over with, Kenny sighed and went over to sit at the table. Dropping his scowl for a more claim expression. "Hey Karen, sorry about that," he said, before his sister handed him a bowl of rice. "How was your day?"
"It was okay." Karen said with a small smile. While Kenny started eating, Karen noticed something and said, "You've got a new one, Kenny."
Kenny looked around before seeing a ghost of a man with glasses that was hanging around his should. He was just floating there with this creepy look. "Dude, I'm trying to eat here, go away," Kenny ordered the spirit, but it didn't. When the ghost was close enough, Kenny punched him in the face, causing the ghost to cry out in pain.
Karen set her bowl down and looked at her brother with both amusement and sympathy. Whether it was their goofy father, who was trying way too hard at times to connect her and surprise attacking Kenny, or ghosts that would show up because of him, he just couldn't seem to catch a break. She was just like him and able to see them.
But she's in permanent denial that they existed.
"Hey, I thought of a new project, listen," Karen said, pulling out a piece of paper. Every once in a while, Karen would come up with some only way to help the clinic earn more money. Last month it was to go looking at flowers. Surprisingly, it was a success. Karen looked at the paper and read it out loud. "'Would you like to frolic with ghosts in the winds of early summer? You can, only during May at the Kurosawa Ghost Picnic. With your host, Kenny the Medium.'"
"You want to profit off me!?" Kenny yelled in comical anger.
"You dropped your guard again!" Isshin caught his son by surprise when he kicked him out from under his seat. He then put poor Kenny in a hold, pinning him to the floor.
Having enough, Kenny threw his father off.
POW! POW!
The two of them then punched each other in the face. With Isshin fisting going into Kenny's left cheek, and Kenny's fist going straight into his father's face. "Gotcha…" Isshin then grunted and fell to the floor. Leaving Kenny still standing. "No charge for then lesson."
Kenny whipped his face with his arm and turned around. "I'm done with dinner," he growled with frustration and stormed off. "I'm going to my room."
"Wait, Kenny." Karen called to him, wanting for her brother to at least spend more time with them. But that wasn't the case as he slammed the door behind him. Karen then looked at her clueless father with disapproval. "Way to go, dad."
"Me?! What did I do?" Isshin exclaimed childishly, standing up like he saw a rat and was afraid of it.
"Kenny's been having a rough time lately!" Karen scolded him like she was his mother. "He said that he's been seeing more spirits lately than ever before."
"What?" Isshin exclaimed in shock. "Why would he talk about these things with you instead of coming to his own dad? That doesn't make sense."
"Does it?" Karen questioned him with a deadpan expression, causing a rain cloud of sadness to appear over Isshin's head. "Think about it. You're a 40-year-old man with the emotional level of a preschooler."
"Oh, my dear wife!" Isshin cried, running over and planting himself onto a large poster of his late wife, Masaki Kurosawa. She was a beautiful woman with fair skin, brown eyes, and long, light, wavy brown hair down to her back which she usually had tied in a knot in the back and bangs down to her chin in the front. Just like in the poster, she typically wore plain dresses and wore lipstick on occasion. "Maybe it's because they're hitting puberty, but our daughter is being so cold to me! What do I do?!"
His daughter threw a tissue box at his head. "WILL YOU TAKE THAT POSTER DOWN!" Karen shouted with comical white eyes and shape teeth.
After closing the door to his room, Kenny threw his book bag onto his chair and sat down on his bed. After grabbing his first-aid kit that he always had for when his dad decided to attack him, the black-haired teenager took off his fingerless gloves started to nurse his bruised knuckles. He was still hungry, but the last thing he wanted to do was deal with his dad attacking him.
But then his train of thought was cut when suddenly out of nowhere, a Black Swallowtail Butterfly came flying in through his window. Kenny's eyes widened. That window was always closed at night.
That's when she came out of his wall and into his life. Jumping into his room from the wall and landing on his desk.
A short and petite figure girl with light skin and purple eyes. Her hair was black, with several strands of hair hanging between her eyes. Her outfit was really strange, like something from the Edo period. Consisting of a white shitagi shirt worn under a black kosode robe, black hakama trousers, a pair of white tabi socks, a pair of waraji scandals, and a white obi sash. Tucked in that sash was a katana sword.
Kenny looked at her in shock, ignoring the fact that she was very pretty. "Who…Who are you?"
The girl didn't answer him. Nor even acknowledged his presence. Did she even see him? She then grabbed her sword, making Kenny crawl away on his bed unit his back hit the wall.
Going on the defensive and exclaimed, "Put that thing away!" He then noticed that one of his wooden training swords was leaning against his bed.
As the girl stepped off his desk, landing softly on the wooden floor, she scanned the room. Like she was looking for something. "It's getting close. I feel it."
BONK!
Kenny hits her over the head with the wooden sword. A second after standing still, the girl's eyes rolled back and then she fell to the floor unconscious. Holding his training sword up, Kenny looked at her with wide eyes.
Maybe that wasn't the best plan of action. He poked her with the wooden sword. She groaned. Good, she was still alive. Now, what to do with her?
1 June, 8:09
When the girl regained consciousness, she was hit with a massive pain in her head, making her grunt as she tried to open her eyes. Even her vision was somewhat blurry as she looked around. "What hit me…?" she said.
"I did." Kenny said, standing in front of her. The girl looked up at him and saw the boy glaring at her with his arms crossed, and her sword his right hand. After taking away the katana, Kenny tied the girl to a wooden chair with bungee cords.
At first when she looked at Kenny's face, her eyes widened in shock. She even started to tear up. "Kaien?"
Kenny was a little confused by her reaction to him at first. Why did she react like that? "Who?"
When he said that, she was brought back to reality and saw that the boy in front of her wasn't the man she thought he was. Then after looking down and seeing the position she was in, the girl suddenly and without warning started thrashing around. Trying to get out of the chair and get back her katana.
"Hey, stop!" Kenny ordered and put his foot on the chair, getting her to stop and looked at him in confusion. Complete with a bunch of question marks popping in and around her head. "You're not getting out of there unless you answer my questions. First off, who are you and what do you want? Are you here to rob us? If so, then you're a pretty shitty burglar if you talk to yourself."
"You knocked me out," she asked him in shock, ignoring all of his other comments and questions. "But I can't be seen by ordinary humans. Are you saying you can see me?"
Kenny blinked in confusion. "The hell you talking about? Of course, I can see you."
This was very strange for the girl. He looks like any normal human being, but there must be some kind of defect with him in some way. Looking all over his body to see if he had any abnormalities, all she saw was he was tall, well-built, with long black hair, and was handsome. Banishing that last thought to very back of her head, the girl's eyes widened when she saw the katana. "Hey! Give that back!" She yelled at Kenny, trying to get out of the bungee cords. "Release me, you fool!"
"You want out of those cords and your weapon? Then you're going to have to answer my questions," Kenny stated firmly to the girl, holding the katana over his head. Getting her to stop and scowl back at him. "Just tell me the truth of who you are and what you're doing here in my house."
The girl stared at him with a scowl. After a second, she lowered her head, closed her eyes and sighed. If that's really what it will take, then she'll play this human's game. Then get payback. "You want to know," she asked ominously and opened her eyes to look up at him. "Then I'll tell you. I'm a Soul Reaper."
Confused, Kenny sat down on the floor in front of the girl tied to the chair. The girl explained that basically she was a Soul Reaper, and she was sent to this town on a mission by this place called the Soul Society, to track down and exterminate some kind of demonic spirit that was going around and eating souls. After she was done, he had a scowl on his face and his arms crossed. Trying to understand everything that he was just told. But it was hard to actually take in.
The girl sat still, waiting for his response. "Okay! I believe you," Kenny said. Still scowling and his arms cross.
The girl was a little surprised. "Really?"
"Yep, that's all believable to me—" Kenny then comically flipped a table that wasn't there before. "ALONG WITH FLYING PIGS AND SANTA CLAUS!"
The girl was instantly offended and said, "How dare you? Why wouldn't you believe in Soul Reapers when you just admitted you can see spirits?"
"That is true, but here's the thing; I've never even seen or heard of a Soul Reaper before," Kenny said with a scowl, resting her sheathed katana on his shoulder. "And frankly, I don't believe in things I can't see."
"Well, you see me, don't you?"
"True, and I agree that you're not human," Kenny said, leaning down towards her face. Pocking her lightly in the stomach with her scabbard. "But a deal's a deal. So, once I untie you, I want to you to get the fuck out of my house, okay little reaper?"
That insult was the last straw that broke the camel's back. The girl had a tick mark on her head and gritted her teeth. "Well, there's one thing this little reaper can teach you, brat."
Kenny stood up to his full height and raised an eyebrow. "And what's that?"
"Don't watch the mouth. Watch the hands." The girl suddenly raised up her hands, showing that she was about to get out of her bounds. Kenny was too shocked to react when she quickly stood up and moved her hand to his chest. "Bakudo #1: Sai!"
Before Kenny could do anything, his arms were suddenly and forcefully tied behind his back. As he grunted to try and get them to move, he was then forced down on his knees, bringing his face and chest to the floor as well. He couldn't move any of his limbs. It was like they were being forced down by some powerful force. "I can't move!" He grunted, trying with all his might to do something as the Soul Reaper stepped on the side of his face and grabbed her katana. Pulling it out of his grasp.
"Paralysis. I've used what's called a Kido on you. It's a high-level incantation only we Soul Reapers can cast," she said with a proud and a dark sneer on her face, as Kenny glared up at her. "It's useless to struggle against it. You're just wasting your energy. I may appear young to you, but I've lived nearly 10 of your life times. I would kill you on the spot for your insults, humiliating me, and stealing from me if it were not against my orders. So you, little boy, be grateful."
"Fuck you." Kenny growled, not giving into her threats.
"And now—"
Kenny gasped and his eyes widened when the Soul Reaper secured her katana's scabbard into her sash, and then drew the sword. The Soul Reaper then raised it over her head, before swinging it down.
Kenny closed his eyes and waited for death.
But nothing happened.
"Oh!" He dared to open his eye and look around. Looking at where the new voice came from, Kenny was shocked to see it was the same ghost from earlier. The Soul Reaper had the bottom of her katana's pommel on the ghost's forehead. "No, please don't." the ghost begged with tear-filled eyes. "I don't want to be sent to the underworld."
The Soul Reaper gave him a claim, comforting smile. "You needn't worry, because you are bound for a better place—the Soul Society," she said in a peaceful tone. She took the pommel away from the ghost's forehead, leaving behind a shining symbol printed on the ghost. "There, your soul will be at peace."
A large blue circle on the floor started to glue. The ghost's body began to shine brightly. With a smile on his face, he put his hands together and slipped thought the floor. The light then disappeared and turned into a Black Swallowtail Butterfly.
"Incredible," Kenny said as the butterfly flew away. "What did you do to him?"
The Soul Reaper sheathed her katana and looked at him. Her cold expression returning. "I sent his spirit to the Soul Society," she said. "It's one of the main responsibilities of a Soul Reaper. People here sometimes call it 'passing on.'"
"So, you guys are like grim reapers or something," Kenny asked. "What else do you do?"
The Soul Reaper kneeled down in front of him. She really didn't want to, but given that he was already involved, she might as well explain the basics to him. "Fine. I'll explain it to you, and this time I'll use small words, so you can understand it."
Well isn't she just pleasant to be around
The girl then reached into her clothing and brought out a marker and a note pad. After about a minute of drawing on it, the Soul Reaper turned it to show Kenny. They were really bad drawings of bunnies. One side showed a 'good' bunny with hearts all around it. The other one showed a 'bad' bunny (AN: looks more like a bear) with lightning bolts all around it. "There are two types of spirits in this world." She pointed to the good bunny. "The first kind are the normal spirits called Pluses. The ghosts that you see are usually this kind." She then pointed to the other bunny. "The second kind are evil spirits known as Hollows. The Hollows attack people, living or dead, in order to devour their souls." She then gave him a comical deadpan look. "Any questions before I go on?"
"No offense, but have you ever thought about taking an art class?"
She drew a French mustache on his face.
"Hey, come on!" Kenny yelled at her, as she turned her back to him and tossed the marker up and down. "Learn to take criticism!"
"Let us continue with our lesson, monsieur général." After that little argument, the Soul Reaper turned back to Kenny. Getting serious again. "There are two main jobs for Soul Reapers," she said, holding up two fingers. Then showed more of her drawings to show him. "First, to lead Pluses to the Soul Society through Konso as I just did. Second, to exorcise the Hollows wherever we find them."
"So, if it's your mission to take these Hollows out," Kenny said, rubbing his face on the floor to wipe the mustache off his face, "then there's one nearby right?"
The girl nodded. "That would be the case."
"Then what are you waiting for!?" Kenny yelled at her like she was stupid or something. "Go out there and kill it!"
The Soul Reaper looked down at the ground with a troubled expression. "I would, but I can't seem to detect its location. Usually, I have no trouble finding a Hollow that's close by."
That didn't give Kenny much confidence.
HOOOOOOWWWWWWWLLLLLL!
When Kenny's ears picked up the sound of that bloodcurdling howling, it was like something out of his worst nightmares. It couldn't have been real. But it was real.
And it was close.
"But here it's as if my senses are being jammed by some powerful force." Kenny looked at the Soul Reaper as if she was crazy. How could she not hear that howling?
"Hey! Don't you hear that!" Kenny exclaimed urgently, getting her attention. When she gave him a questioning look, he continued. "There's something howling out there! And it's close by."
The girl looked puzzled at him. "Howling? What do you mean? I don't hear anything…"
HOOOOOOWWWWWWWLLLLLL!
That's when she heard the howling, she gasped, and her body was almost paralyzed in shock. She quickly stood up and turned towards the sound, her eye wide with fear and alarm. "Now I hear it! Definitely a Hollow."
CRASH!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
Kenny's eyes widened when he heard the sound of something crashing into the house and a scream. Both coming from downstairs. But it wasn't just anyone's scream, and there was just one girl living in the house. "That's Karen!"
The Soul Reaper then turned and ran to the door.
"Hey, wait!" Kenny yelled at her, trying to get up. The Soul Reaper opened the door, only to stop when hit by blast of spiritual pressure, or Reiastu. One of the strongest she's ever felt. The Soul Reaper wondered how she didn't sense it earlier.
"S-Son…" When the wave of Reiastu stopped, the Soul Reaper turned and gasped when she saw Isshin bleeding badly from his back. He groaned in pain as he crawled over to Kenny's room, not seeing the girl.
Kenny saw him as he stopped at his doorway and yelled. "Dad! What happened?!"
Isshin struggled to stay conscious as he looked at his son. "Kenny…I-I-I couldn't do anything. Please…save Karen," he said, reaching out to him. "I can't lose…you both."
As the first moment Kenny saw his goofy dad so serious in a long time came to an end, Isshin passed out on the ground. As the Soul Reaper kneeled down next to the man, she placed a hand on the man and said to Kenny, "Don't worry. He's just unconscious. His soul is still…"
When she turned back to him, the Soul Reaper was stunned to see that Kenny managed to actually stand up. Kenny growled and grunted, as he tried with all his might to break out of the Kido. "Stop! What are you doing!? The Kido is too strong for a human to break." She warned him after getting over her shock. "If you keep trying, you'll only cause damage to your soul!"
"Shut up!" Kenny snapped, still trying to break free. Causing some symbols to appear around him. Then the Soul became even more astonished when they started breaking and disappearing. "As long as I've got strength in me, nothing will stop me…FROM PROTECTING MY FAMILY!"
And then the Kido broke.
The Soul Reaper stood there as Kenny ran to his wooden practice sword. How was this even possible? A mere human being able to break a Kido? She saw him take the sword and run out of the room to save his sister. Unable to stop him as he ran down the stairs. In her mind, she wondered what exactly he was.
Kenny reached the bottom of the stairs and was shocked to see it all in a wreck. Plates, table, chairs, and food shattered everywhere. He then turned toward a massive hole in the side of the wall.
That's when he first laid eyes on a Hollow.
It was a large Humanoid creature, approximately 16ft in height, with a fish-like, white mask and a black body with a dorsal fin on its back. The shoulders and arms were plated with what appeared to be a part of the mask and its body was covered with dark gray stripes, resembling the scales of a fish.
Kenny froze in fear as it looked at him with its blank yellow eyes. This was a Hollow? The Soul Reaper said that it was an 'evil spirit', so Kenny's mind predicted it to being in the form of a human. But this? This was a monster. Kenny felt his body shaking, and he grabbed his chest. He had to get a hold of his fear.
As the Hollow raised its right hand up, Kenny's eyes widened. There was Karen, in its grasp. "KAREN!"
Karen looked at him with tearful eyes, looking more scared than she ever felt in her life. "…Kenny…!"
Forgetting all about his fears, Kenny tightened his grip on the wooden sword and charged at the Hollow. Yelling out a battle cry.
BASH!
Only for it to punch Kenny away with ease. Kenny cried out in pain from the hit, before bouncing off the ground and skidding to a halt. Kenny grunted as he sat up. His head was bleeding, and when he wiped off the blood, he saw that his weapon was destroyed.
He then saw the Hollow bring the fist that was holding Karen up. Kenny's eyes widened. He was going to bring it down at crush him, and kill his sister in the process.
SLASH!
Suddenly, as it was swung down, the Soul Reaper came flying in. Cutting into the Hollow's arm. Kenny looked in shock, as the girl looked at him from the corner of her eye.
The Hollow then let go of Karen.
"Karen!" Kenny yelled and ran to her, catching her before she landed. He then saw the Hollow crying out in pain, holding its arm in as it bled. Kenny looked at his sister with worry. "Karen?" he said, but didn't get a response. She was out cold.
"Don't worry," the Soul Reaper said, landing in front of him in a fighting stance. Ready for the next time the Hollow attacks again. "The Hollow left without devouring either of your family's souls."
Kenny looked at the Soul Reaper and then down at his sister. He looked at the back of the ghostly being's head with an anxious and concern expression. How could she be certain? In his head, Kenny remembered her saying that Hollows attacked people to eat their souls. "I don't get it. Why did it my family?"
The Soul Reaper wasn't sure, but after everything she's seen, she was more than certain. "Hollows wander searching for souls with high spiritual concentration. For that, arbitrary humans are sometime attacks," she explained to him.
Kenny's eyes widened a little. "What are you saying…"
At first, the Soul Reaper was silent. Her hair shadowing over her eyes. "For some reason, most of your spirit energy was hidden deep within you until now, when you needed it to save your sister. That's why I didn't sense anything unusual about you when I arrived. It also explains why the Hollows haven't come after you. You're a human that can see Soul Reapers and such a high amount of spiritual energy."
The girl looked grimly over her shoulder at Kenny, who looked at her with a look that said he knew what she was going to say.
"The Hollow is really after you."
Kenny's eyes widened in horror.
The Hollow regained its wits and lot out a howl that pierced the night sky. "It's coming back! Get out of here!" The Soul Reaper ordered the black-haired teen. But when she didn't hear a response, she looked back at him.
Kenny was on his hands and knees, starting at the ground with wide eyes. The Hollow really came for him? So, does that mean that both his father and Karen could end up dying because of him? Kenny felt tears in his eyes. He was the reason his dad was almost dead. The reason that his sister was hurt.
The Soul Reaper looked at him with concern. "Hey, are you—"
SMACK!
The Hollow backhanded her away from Kenny. Sending her crashing into a wall. This snapped Kenny out of it, and he looked at the Soul Reaper with worry. "Soul Reaper!"
His attention was brought back to the Hollow with it roared. The mental images of his family being hurt flashed in his middle. Kenny's eyes then turned to a glare.
As the Soul Reaper recovered from her hit, cursing herself for letting her guard down, the girl was started when Kenny yelled, "Hey you! Fish-face!" She turned to Kenny and saw him standing in the middle of the road. Staring at the Hollow with a glaring look with his wooden sword, as the monster towered over him. What he was doing was beyond stupid, but he had to get the monster away from his home and family and the Soul Reaper. "Leave the girl and my family out of this! It's my soul you want!"
"What are you doing!?" The girl yelled with wide eyes.
"I'm buying you some time to kill—" Kenny didn't finish the sentence because that's when the Hollow attacked. Not by trying to smash him. But by elongating its head and launching it at him.
Kenny's eyes widened in shock. He couldn't dodge it.
SLASH! CRUNCH!
Blood flew into the air.
Kenny was shocked to see the Soul Reaper in front of him, putting herself in front of the Hollow's attack. Getting her left arm and shoulder bitten down by the Hollow. But she was able to stop it from completely killing her, by cutting in between two of its front teeth. "Soul Reaper!" Kenny shouted, before charging.
Punching the Hollow in the face with enough force to not only to get the Soul Reaper out of its mouth, but also to have her cut into the gums of the monster and get her katana out. Almost cutting out one of its teeth.
The Hollow backed up and grabbed its face in pain. Kenny then quickly grabbed the Soul Reaper before she could fall. Holding her bridal style, he looked at her fatal wounds, while his clothes got stained with blood. But she was still alive. How else would she be looking at him with an agonizing glare? "You're a fool," she managed to get out. "How could you possibly have thought that you were any match for a Hollow? Did you really think that everything would be over if you gave it your soul? One soul doesn't satisfy them for long."
Kenny looked down in shame. "I'm sorry." He walked over to a streetlamp and laid her gently down against it. "I was only…"
"It doesn't matter what you were trying to do…" the girl said. "If you don't stop interfering, we're all going to end up as its food!"
As the girl struggled to remain alive, Kenny lowered his head in shame. She was right. He was just desperate to save his family. Now it's his fault that they're all going to die. He punched the ground in frustration.
The Soul Reaper stared at the boy for a moment as she panted. Her words may have been harsh, but it was the truth and it had to be said. Even if she knew that his intentions were good. With the Hollow's howls of pain ceasing, she knew that it was only a matter before it was too late. "I'm too injured to fight…Do you want to save your family…?"
Kenny looked up at her and looked a little confused. "Yes! If there's a way, then please tell me," he pleaded, kneeling in front of her.
Even though weakened by the Hollow, she grasped her sword. "It'll only be temporary, but…" she raised it and pointed it at Kenny's heart. "…you must become a Soul Reaper yourself."
"What?" Kenny looked at her in astonishment. How was that even possible? "But…how can I…?"
"You must take my Zanpakutō and run it through to the center of your being, so that I may pour my powers into you." They heard the Hollow howling again. "I can't guarantee that you'll live, but if it doesn't…"
Kenny grabbed the blade without hesitation.
The girl looked surprised at him, as he scowled with determination. "I will not let my family die. And I'm not going to let you die too, Soul Reaper," he said. This caused her blush. But she smiled nonetheless.
"It's not 'Soul Reaper'," she told him. Speaking kinder to him. This maybe his and her's last moments alive, so it'll be nice to know who she'll die with. "My name is Rukia. Rukia Kuchiki."
"You say that like this is really the end. But alright." Kenny smiled kindly to her. The Hollow roared and charged at them. If it was the end, then he'll let her know his name. "My name is Kenny. Kenny Kurosawa."
STAB!
He stabbed the Zanpakutō into his chest.
FLASH!
Suddenly a massive bright flash of light coming from spiritual energy that engulfed the two. That light because a pillar of blinding white light that shot up into the air, piecing though the cloud.
Kenny and Rukia were now floating together in total darkness. Kenny was wearing his school uniform still, while Rukia's outfit changed to a simple white kimono. She looked at herself and was surprised by her change. How could this be? She only meant to give him half of her powers, but somehow, he's taken nearly all of it.
"Where are we," asked Kenny, looking around the space that they were in.
Rukia suddenly gasped loudly. Kenny turned to her and saw her pointing to his chest. Where glowing blue light was coming from, as well as a mumming and floating sound.
Kenny looked down to be met with the sight of a glowing blue light the size of a baseball. It floated out of his chest and moved in front of him. As both he and the Soul Reaper stared at it with wide eyes, Kenny reached out for it with both hands. Cupping it with them. Although he couldn't touch it physically, he still felt it in his palms. Rukia could also fell it too. A soft and warm, yet powerful energy was coming off it. "What is it," Rukia asked. Shaking his head, Kenny pouched it with his right index finger.
That's when a black sphere formed in the blue like.
The blue light suddenly became a mass of lightning. What looked like electricity exploded everywhere, but no harm was brought Kenny or Rukia. The black sphere was untouched amidst the chaotic powers that it was in. The light and sphere turned into blinding white light was so intense that Rukia covered her face and eyes.
Kenny squinted as he only could see the sphere in the whiteness. Then to his astonishment, the sphere stretched out to the sides and slightly curved, before disappearing into the light.
When it was finally over and the light was gone, Rukia reopened her eyes and put her hands down. She looked at Kenny and gasped in amazement.
Floating between her and Kenny, while glowing in a mystical and soft light, was a Japanese katana sword sheathed inside of a black scabbard. The tsuba guard was also black and was in a square shape, the tsuka handle consisted of a black ito cord wrap over a yellow same rayskin.
It looked like an ordinary katana, but Kenny knew that there was something more to it than meets the eyes.
[Take it, Kenny Kurosawa.]
The voice startled Kenny and Rukia, and they looked around for the person.
[Clear your mind and let the sword protect you. Have faith, not just in the sword, but faith in yourself to guide the blade and vanquish the evil.]
Kenny closed his eyes, taking in all that was being said to him. Rukia stare at him with wonder.
[Trust not what you see, but what you feel…]
Kenny reopened his black eyes, filling them with an intense amount of determination.
He reached with his left hand and grabbed it by the scabbard. Kenny's right hand reached out and grabbed the handle of the sword.
SHIING!
The sound of the metal scraping against the inside of the scabbard as he pulled it out echoed all around the space they were in. The blade then started glowing bright silver. Rukia could only watch as the human started to shine bright white, before everything went white.

When the bright light went away…
SLICE!
The Hollow's arm was cut clean off. Surprising the Hollow, though it didn't cry out in pain.
Rukia looked around and saw that she was back in the world of the living. What was that she just witnessed? Any other questioned were put on hold as she heard the arm crash onto the ground. The short girl looked and was utterly shocked—again—by what she saw.
Kenny was standing behind the Hollow with that same sword that she saw in that weird dimension. However, he was now wearing the clothing of a Soul Reaper. But it was vastly different. Instead of the kosode robe and hakama trousers being black like all Soul Reapers, Kenny's attire was all white. On his back was a symbol; a square inside of a circle, with small lines protruding from the square's sides.
Kenny glared at the hollow, with the sword on his shoulder, and the winds moving around his feet from all the power he had. "This ends now!" Kenny exclaimed, before charging at the Hollow.
As Kenny and the Hollow charged at each other, Kenny grabbed the sword with both hands and lift it up. The Hollow tried to step on Kenny, but he leaped back and swung the sword. Cutting off the leg in one, clean slice. Kenny looked up at the monster. Howling out an agonizing roar, the Hollow fell on its back. With its left arm and right leg gone, the beast tried to use its remaining limbs to crawl away.
"No. There's no escape."
Kenny let out a battle cry as he jumped high into the air. Higher than he's ever jumped before with his new sword raised over his head.
SLAB
Landing on the back of its neck, Kenny stabbed the sword deep into the mask of the Hollow. This finishes the job and the evil spirit slowly disappeared from existence. Gone forever from the world. Kenny landed on his feet and started to pant.
Rukia sat there in the middle of the street, staring at the boy in astonishment. Just what kind of being was Kenny? Never had she ever seen a human with spirit energy as strong as his. That's what was jamming her senses before. Never had ever heard of a human with enough strength to break the Kido on his own. She's never seen a Soul Reaper's uniform in complete white.
And that sword. Rukia could only wonder just what that sword was. It wasn't a Zanpakutō, that's for sure. But it held a power that even she couldn't understand, and her body could still remember the feeling of the aura it had.
Just what was that sword?
[End music]
"Hey?" Rukia snapped out of it and saw that Kenny had walked over to her. Standing in front of her and looked at her with concern, Kenny kneeled down while leaning on the sword. He felt so tired. "Are you okay?"
Rukia blushed again, but she nodded to his answer. Though it was a lie. She lost her powers and was injured.
"I'm glad…" Kenny said, before closing his eyes and leaning to the side. Rukia gasped as he dropped to his side, rendered unconscious. But his grip on the sword remained.
"Kenny? Kenny, are you okay?!" Rukia placed her hands on the young man's shoulders and shook him a little.
"Well," said a voice that made Rukia look up, "that was interesting." Rukia grabbed the sword from Kenny's grip, and got to her knees. Even if the sword was a little big for her, Rukia was willing to defend the boy.
"Who are you?"
2 June, 6:00 A.M.
Kenny's strange dream of being turned into a chicken by a wizard was suddenly cut short by something coming right at him. "Good morning~ KEEEEENNNNNNYYYYYY!" It was none other than Isshin as he did his daily wake up call for his son; attacking him.
CCCCCRRRAAAAASSSSHHHH!
It ended like it always did. Kenny was able to act quickly react and gain the upper hand. Slamming his dad on the floor and pinning him down by grabbing his face and pushing him down. While the man groaned in pain, Kenny looked rather pissed off. "Are you out of your mind?! Your son is just sleeping, and you attack him?!"
"You are getting good," said the father, still getting his head pushed into the floor.
Kenny growled at his dad's antics. For a guy that was all serious last night, he could turn back to his old self again. Now that Kenny saw it, he noticed that not only was he goofy again, but he wasn't injured at all. "What happened to your wounds," he asked, letting go of Isshin's face.
Isshin sat up and looked at his son with confusion. "Wounds? What wounds? Did I get hurt?"
Kenny blinked in confusion.
If Kenny had doubts about last night being a dream, they were dashed away when he got downstairs. While Karen wasn't hurt like Isshin and had no injuries, there was still that huge hole in the wall made by the Hollow that attack. "It's a miracle!" Isshin said after boarding up the hole as best as he could with some wooden planks he had. "A truck crashed into the house and nobody got a single scratch."
Karen looked a little skeptical about all this. "I don't get it. How could a truck hit our house and we heard nothing? Well, you should go get dressed for school." She looked at her brother and saw that he was spacing out. Silently staring at the hole with a slight frown. Seeing that he wasn't listening to her, Karen tapped his arm. "Kenny?"
"Huh?" Kenny snapped out of it when his sister tapped his arm. "I'm sorry, what was that," he asked.
"I was saying that you should get dressed," Karen clarified, holding a ladle. "I'm making breakfast today."
Kenny nodded and walked into the house, making his way up to his room. He was really confused. It's clear that what happened last night wasn't a freaky dream. He was visited by a Soul Reaper and her name was Rukia Kuchiki. He and his family were attacked by a Hollow. But why was no one hurt, not that he was complaining. But why did they think a truck hit the house? And where was Rukia? Did she return to that Soul Society place?
He opened his room and closed the door. Well, at least that nightmare was over with. Kenny turned to his closet and opened it.
The black-haired boy gasped.
Laying in his closet was none other than the sword from last night. The same katana that he pulled out of his chest and used to destroy the Hollow. It was sheathed in its black scabbard. Underneath it was a red Kendo sword bag with a cross-body black strap.
What the hell? Kenny picked up the sword, making a small folded piece of paper fall. Noticing it, Kenny bent down and picked it up. Opening it with one hand.
Bring the sword
Kenny saw a very bad drawing of a bunny head. Rukia was still around? Why?
"Kenny! Hurry up!"
Kenny glanced to the door and then back at the note. Was he really consisting this? Taking this sword to school? It was insane. What if people saw it and called the cops! But then again, that's what the sword bag would be for.
With a sigh, Kenny grabbed the bag and slipped the sword into it. He then placed the bag on his desk and turned back to getting dressed. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
2 June, 10:43 A.M.
Located in the Gakuenchō area of Karakura Town, Karakura High School was a normal school containing normal teenagers. Surrounded by trees, the school complex consisted of a number of buildings varying from one to four stories, along with open areas. The roof was surrounded by railings and was frequently used by students as a venue for lunch. The facilities included playing pitches, a six-lane running track, and a gym. There were a number of clubs in the school, from soccer and basketball to the Kendō club that used Kenny to be in unit dropping out of it. However, the school was somewhat famous for its strong karate team.
It was really just a normal school with normal kids. Two of these students were walking towards their classroom. One was Orihime Inoue. A beautiful teenage girl of average height with brown eyes and long, waist-length, burnt orange hair with a full but parted fringe. She had slender yet curvaceous figure that would make heads turn for a teenager, especially in terms of her large breasts. She also wore her hair in bangs tucked behind her ears with star-like hairpins.
The second girl was Tatsuki Arisawa, a teenager of average height with brown eyes and short black hair was kept spiked out at the sides to be in tune with her less than feminine appearance. In contrast to her best friend's appearance, Tatsuki was a tomboy by heart, and had a very lean frame compared to Orihime's curvier figure.
Both were wearing the girl's uniform, consisting of a grey skirt, white shirt with red bow tie, and grey blazer.
"So, Orihime. Did you bring lunch today?" Tatsuki turned to her friend and asked.
Orihime nodded with a smile. "Leftover Taiyaki-style ramen with wasabi and honey," she replied.
Tatsuki's mind conjured up what that would look like and it didn't look appetizing at all. One thing that Orihime was infamous for was not only her oddball personality and her over-active imagination was that she cooked and ate unusual meals that other people often find unappetizing or even think is healthy. Some, even though that all that nutrients were going to her breasts.
"Would you like some, Tatsuki?"
"That's okay."
The two girls entered the classroom and looked around at who was there. Not many people were there. Just about less than haft the class. But one person that Orihime was looking for was her crush, Kenny Kurosawa. It was clear to everyone in the school that the orange-haired girl had a massive crush on the black-haired boy, despite how many times she's tried—and failed to deny it.
And speaking of which, Kenny was at his desk looking down at his desk. Looking to be lost in thought. "Hi, Kenny," Orihime said.
Kenny looked up and saw the orange-haired girl coming up to him with a big and a sweet smile. He blushed lightly and smiled back. Kenny was somewhat aware that Orihime had a bit of a crush on him, and wouldn't deny that she was attractive. However, he wasn't sure what his feelings for her were. "What's going on Orihime?" He greeted and saw Tatsuki, his old childhood friend with her like always.
"Not much, Kurosawa," the dark-haired tomboy said with a smirk. She then noticed that hanging on his chair was the sword bag. Inside, against his better judgement, he brought the sword from last night "What's with the sword bag?"
"Are you joining the Kendo club again?" asked one of Kenny's friends, Mizuiro Kojima. He was a boy with short black hair and green eyes, parted down the middle with a stray bang in his face and the tips fanning out. He looked very young and wore the Karakura uniform with the jacket zipped up.
Despite his innocent looking face, he had a secret that only Kenny knew. He was quite sly with the ladies.
Not girls his age, but older women.
"I…guess you can say that," Kenny said, lying to the boy. He didn't want to, but how was he supposed to tell him that there was a real sword in that bag.
"By the way, I heard that your house was hit by a truck. Is that true," asked Mizuiro. This made Orihime and Tatsuki gasped and look at Kenny with wide eyes.
Tatsuki slammed her hands-on Kenny's table and looked at him with wide eyes. "Are you serious?! Is anyone hurt or something," she asked, but that tomboyish way.
"Everyone's fine, we're just going to be closed until we get it fixed," Kenny told her, a little taken back by her aggressive display of concern.
Then another one of his friends came up. "You need any help," asked the person. Kenny looked to his right, and then leaned his head back as his gaze climbed up to student to look them in the eyes. This was Yasutora Sado, better known as Chad by his friends. He's a teenager of Mexican and Japanese descent with dark-skin, pronounced cheekbones, wavy brown hair with bangs that generally hung over his brown eyes. He was a muscular and extremely tall. Even able to tower over Kenny. His appearance made him out to be much older than he actually was.
"Nah, I'm good," Kenny said. Behind him, someone approached their little group.
"Hello, your Kenny Kurosawa, right?" said the people.
Kenny turned his head towards the person, and it was…
"Nice to meet you, my name is Rukia Kuchiki," said Rukia. The very same Soul Reaper girl from last night that save his life and the lives of his family.
Kenny could have sworn his brain slapped in his skull. He was so shocked by her appearance that he jumped out of his seat and stared at her with wide eyes and his mouth open. This action took his friends aback and gained him puzzled looks. "What's wrong, Kenny? Do you know her," asked Orihime.
"What do you mean?" Rukia looked at the busty girl with an innocent face. "I've never seen him before." What's going on? How are they able to see her if she's a ghost…grim reaper—whatever!
"Rukia here just transferred in today," Mizuiro explained, gesturing to Rukia as she stood there as innocent as a rabbit. A complete 180 from the stone-cold girl he met last night. "It's a weird time, but her family was in a situation where they had to move suddenly."
Kenny looked at him with confusion, as did the two human girls. How did he know that? Rukia approached Kenny and held up her left hand. "I'm afraid that I don't have a textbook yet. Can I please look at yours?"
Then she turned mover her hand to show the sentence 'Make a scene and you're dead' written on her palm. Kenny gulped.
2 June, 11:00 A.M.
When the teacher, Misato Ochi arrived into the room, Rukia suddenly grabbed Kenny's sword bag and the boy himself by his uniform and dragged him out of the room. Surprising everyone in the room, as Kenny protested and tried to get the little girl to let go of him. She was surprisingly strong. Rukia did let go after they get outside and told him to take her to a place that no one could see them. Kenny didn't like that he was being ordered around by Rukia, but did it so that he could get this situation over with.
When Kenny brought her the back of the school where no one could see them, he turned around and scowled down at Rukia. "Okay, what the hell are you doing here," he demanded.
"How scary, you big brute," Rukia asked in a rather rude, old-fashioned innocent way. Complete with a fake, innocent smile. "Jeepers, you're not going to hurt me, are you?"
"Well, aren't you just the most innocent girl in the world," Kenny said with sarcasm. Not amused by her cutesy act. He sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "But serious, what are you doing here? I thought you would have gone back to the Soul Society."
Seeing that he was genuine with his question, Rukia looked down with a troubled expression and grabbed her left arm. "I can't. Only Soul Reapers can return to the Soul Society. I haven't the power to return anymore."
Kenny looked confused. "What do you mean? Aren't you a Soul Reaper?"
"Not anymore. Last night, I lost almost all my powers as a Soul Reaper. I'm afraid they were all absorbed into you, Kenny." Kenny gasped. He was shocked at first that she wasn't a Soul Reaper anymore. "Thanks to you, for the time being, I'm stuck in this ridiculous Gigai form," she said.
"I-I'm sorry, I don't…" Kenny said, feeling a little guilty, but then he looked at her in confusion. "Gigai? What's that?"
Rukia pointed to herself. "It's a temporary body that serves as a vessel in an emergency. If the Soul Reaper is drastically weakened, they reside inside of a Gigai until their powers come back."
"So that's why everyone was able to see you, right?"
"Precisely. And so, until all of my powers come back, it's up to you, Kenny Kurosawa, to perform the duties of a Soul Reaper," Rukia said with a smile and holding her hand out to Kenny.
Kenny looked at her with a comical shock expression. "Huh?"
Rukia continued on, overloading Kenny's brain with questions and confusion "It's only natural. You now possess the strength of a Soul Reaper. You do not have the right to refuse your calling."
"Wait a minute. Wait a minute!" Kenny yelled, putting up his hand to call a time out. "What do you mean this is my calling? That was only that one time and it was because my family was in danger. I'm not a Soul Reaper! I'm a freakin' high school kid!"
"Don't be ridiculous, Kenny. You did just fine yesterday."
"Like I said, that was because of my family," Kenny said. He then pulled the sword in the scabbard out of his shinai bag. "Why don't I just do what you did for me last night?" He was about the pull out the weapon, but Rukia stopped him by putting her hand on the handle. Kenny looked at her in confusion. "What's wrong? They were you powers to give, now I have to give them back."
"I understand, but it doesn't work like that. Not with this sword." Rukia then started to put on a red glove with a white skull in the center of a blue flame. "Now hold still. There's no other choice."
"What're you…" Kenny didn't have time to finish his question before Rukia slammed her hand into his face and pushed him back. The tall boy stumbled back before looking that Rukia, only to be shocked when he saw his body lying right next to her on the ground. He looked at himself and saw that he was not only out of his own body, but back in the same white Soul Reaper outfit that he was in the night before. Not only that, but the sword and the scabbard were also still in his hands.
Rukia turned and said, "Follow me."
2 June, 11:13 A.M.
With his new weapon tucked into his sash, Kenny followed Rukia as she walked towards a small park. As he walked past a lamp, Kenny noticed a few flowers in vases at a street lamp.
"We're getting close," Rukia said, pulling out her flip phone from her shirt pocket and looked at a text message.
"To what?"
"Our latest orders from the Soul Society. It looked like a spirit of a boy that dwells here in this park is likely to come under attack soon."
Someone screaming got their attention. Kenny gasped when he saw a ghost boy getting chased around by a six-legged, spider-like Hollow that crashed into many of the playground's structures.
When the boy cried out for, Kenny's instinctively grabbed his sword's handle and rushed in.
"Wait! Hold on!"
Kenny stopped and looked back at Rukia. "What?!"
"Just where are you going? This is a Soul Reaper's job," she said.
"And so, what? Are you going to do anything to save him?"
"And what will happen if you!" Rukia shouted back. "You're not a Soul Reaper, isn't that what you said? Then you have no business in doing anything to save him. So, DON'T!" Kenny growled angrily at her before turning to see the Hollow slowly catching boy with the boy. "But if you were a Soul Reaper, then it's a commitment! You can't just save souls because they're in danger in front of you! You must be willing to save all souls, even if it's at the cost your life!"
Kenny's mind recalled back to Rukia's sacrifice the day before. She saved his life by standing between him and the attacking Hollow. Kenny knew that his fate was sealed when he willingly became a Soul Reaper. And reached for his sword again.
SWAK!
Moving quicker than Rukia imaged and in one swing, Kenny cut one of the Hollow's legs clean off.
SWAK!
He then cut off another one with a twirl of his body. It fell on its back, roaring in pain.
After getting over her surprise, Rukia asked, "Have you made your decision, Kenny?"
Kenny stood there with his back turned to her. "I'm not a Soul Reaper, Rukia, but I can't just stand here and watch this boy get killed. That's my answer. Besides, you're a real hypocrite if you're using this to try and make me something I'm not," he said turning to look at her. "You didn't have to save me that night, and in all honesty, if you were thinking about your duty, then you would have left me to die!"
Rukia stared shocked at him, but then noticed the Hollow getting right back up. It then charged at Kenny.
"But you didn't. You weren't thinking about your duty when you saved me, so don't you ever play this mind game with me again! I'm not like you!" Kenny proclaimed and turned around.
SHUNK!
Throwing his katana like a spear, he stabbed the Hollow in the head. Kenny walked over to the Hollow and grabbed the handle. "I'm Kenny Kurosawa, and this is my choice," Kenny said.
He pulled out the sword, and the Hollow fell to the ground. Disappearing into thin air. Kenny then heard the boy, and walked over to him. Rukia watched as he kneeled down in front of him.
"Are you okay?" Kenny asked in a gentle voice. "More of those things are going to be coming after you. I can help you pass on." He held up his sword to do the same thing Rukia did to have him pass on. But before he could, Rukia held out her hand with something. Kenny looked and saw it was a simple looking stamp.
"Use this," said Rukia. "Your sword isn't a Zanpakutō. It's something else. Something very powerful, and ancient. So, to perform a Konsō, use this."
Kenny didn't know what she meant, but he grabbed the stamp. Looking at it, he saw the bottom of it start to glow. Kenny gasped at the sight, and he turned to the boy and pressed the stamp onto his forehead. It left the seal when he pulled away, and the boy started to glow with a peaceful expression, sinking into the ground and turning into a black butterfly.
When Kenny stood up, Rukia said, "You did that very beautifully." She looked at the long-haired and saw him looking at the spot the boy once was. The wind blowing in his hair and he stood in silence. "What's wrong?"
"I'm still not ready to commit to being a Soul Reaper, Rukia," he said with a scowl on his face. "It's like I said, I'm not like you. But…" Kenny turned to Rukia with a gentler face than before. "You didn't just save me that night. You put your life on the line for Karen and dad, and I'm forever grateful to you. Besides, I'm not the person to just let someone get hurt when I have the power to stop it. That's just not who I am."
Sheathing the sword into the scabbard, he turned to Rukia. Kenny then held out his hand to her.
"So, I'll help you. Until you get your powers back, and as long as you help me, I'll take on your duties as a Soul Reaper."
Rukia really didn't understand this boy. She was more than certain that he would take up being a Soul Reaper before, but when he didn't, she started to question if letting him have his new powers was a good idea. But now, seeing him willing to be a Reaper, Rukia smiled at Kenny.
She grabbed his hand and shook it. "Good, I'm counting on you, Kenny."
And with that, Kenny Kurosawa became a Soul Reaper.
