Author's Note: Written for a LJ challenge. So many thanks to all of you who reviewed my fics. And yes, I'm working on another sequel to the Falling Forever/Sweetest Taboo series. But for now, a little appetizer. :-)
I see her all the time, my little fairy girl. Narcissa often complains that the Manor is too silent these days but it is not for me. When I walk these halls, the sound of her skipping feet echoes off the walls behind me. Peals of laughter drift out of the sitting room and I wonder what game she is playing today. When I glance out the windows, I can see her dancing in the lavish garden, barefoot and arms stretched out, the rays of the dying sun bathing her in hazy, glittering glow.
Draco can't see her, but then again, she was never his, so why should he? No, she is all mine. On her my upturned nose is endearing, not unattractive. My fingers itch to touch her dark, curling locks, so unlike my own wispy-fine strands. She moves with such fluid grace, carefree in a way I never was. And I am glad for it.
I only wish to hold her tight in my arms, to breathe in her sweet scent and whisper my secrets into her ears. That while I miss her and love her, I do not regret that she was taken, all too soon, from me. There would have been too many questions I could not answer, too many people hurt. I want to tell her all this, but before I can reach out for her, she slips away, like smoke after a candle is snuffed out.
But she always returns, and every once in a while, she stops and graces me with her smile. And when she looks at me, the intensity of her green gaze takes my breath away.
