Sunglasses.
Makino Tsukushi hated sunglasses, and it was a known fact. The F4 would come to school decked out in casual clothes, and five hundred dollar sunglasses. And they would take them off before Tsukushi could see them.
Why do you hate them so much? People would ask her. She wouldn't tell anyone the truth, or at least not the whole truth.
Her first excuse was, "they're too expensive."
But Tsukasa replied that if you didn't buy designer brands and bought a commoner set instead, then it would only be 2,000 yen instead of 50,000 yen ($20 instead of $500).
Tsukushi gave him a look that dared him to name one item in his wardrobe that wasn't designer.
"Besides," she complained. "You don't really need them anyways. They're big, expensive, and unnecessary." It seemed like an acceptable excuse, and they left her alone for a while.
That is the F4 stopped trying to buy her Gucci sunglasses and brought her Marc Jacobs sunglasses instead. She turned away, saying that it really was no better.
"I hate sunglasses!" She pouted, and Tsukasa gave in.
Momentarily, or course. Because Makino found herself at the mall, with Tsukasa. In a Gucci store.
"Look at those sunglasses over there!" He picked up an oversized, extremely expensive pair of sunglasses that looked magnificent on Tsukushi.
"I told you I hate sunglasses." She said before putting the atrocious item back.
"I won't accept your excuses." He stared at her.
"And why not?"
"They're not good enough." That really got to her. Her excuses weren't good enough? But it was the truth! Or at least part of it, she thought.
"Well fine! That's fine by me. You want to know why I hate sunglasses so much? I'll tell you why I hate sunglasses so much! They're big, expensive, unnecessary, and they covered up your gorgeous eyes!"
Moments later, Makino Tsukushi was running through the mall, trying to get home so you could duck under her covers and pretend that today never happened.
The next day, when Tsukushi arrived at her lockers, she found an atrocious pair of sunglasses. Gucci, oversized, expensive sunglasses that looked really good on her. And of course there was a note.
As usual.
"Stubborn, pig-headed, urchin-haired, octopus!" She yelled she slammed the locker door shut, taking the sunglasses with her only so she could return them.
The note lay in her bag, unread.
"Tsukasa!" She forced the sunglasses into his hand. "Get that thing away from me!"
He stood there. In all his glory, with a pair of sunglasses perched on top of his head. He smiled. "You didn't read the note did you."
Her expression gave it away.
As usual.
He laughed and hugged her tightly. "I love sunglasses, because they look so good on you. Because they're giant and oversized and you always pout and complain about them. And you get irritated, and you pretend that you hate them. I love sunglasses, because I love what they do to you."
And, in the middle of yet another kiss, Tsukushi decided that maybe, just maybe, sunglasses weren't that bad after all.
