The Logical Thing

By The Bubbles

A/N- This takes place directly after "Journey to Babel." It's a little later and everyone is asleep.

I reposted this for two reasons. 1) There were some typos that I needed to fix, and 2) the reviews I got were rude and contained profanity so I wanted them gone. I don't mind if you don't like the story, but if you're going to post a negative review, leave out the profanity. It is rude and insensitive, and pollutes the web. So stop it.

Disclaimer- There will be no disclaimer for this story because the Authoress is currently under the dillusion that she does own Star Trek.

Random Person- But you don't.

Amanda sat down on Sarek's sickbay bed. They crossed fingers instinctively.

"Is something troubling you, My Wife?"

"Well... I've been thinking, Sarek," she said. "If I died, would you miss me?"

He paused, then, "It is not a question of if, Amanda, everyone dies at some point."

"You're avoiding the question, Sarek."

"No, I'm not. I am merely stating a fact."

"All right then, WHEN I die, will you miss me?"

"Of course I would."

"Would you remarry?"

"Probably. It would be logical."

"Well," she huffed. "I can't fault you for your honesty, but I think I would have preferred you to lie." She put her hand down.

"That would not be logical, Amanda."

"And why would it be logical to remarry?"

Sarek began to sense the trap he'd set for himself. He tried to wriggle out of it.

"Why, for the boys, of course."

"Oh, I see." She remained calm. "For the boys. Your two ADULT sons."

"I wouldn't like her," Spock mumbled as he rolled over in his sickbed.

They stared.

"At least he's on my side," Amanda said smugly.

"He is on no one's side, Amanda, he is asleep."

"Sarek..."She put her hand up.

He gave the closest thing to a smile and crossed his fingers with hers.

"I could care for no one as I do you, Amanda, you know that."

She kissed the top of his head. "You're forgiven." She stood.

"Where are you going?"

She leaned over and kissed the top of Spock's head.

"I'm going to bed," she told him. "I'm tired, and you're not dying anymore. Good night."

"Good night..."

Spock snorted and rolled out of bed. He did noy wake, merely shifted to a more comfortable position. Sarek lifted an eyebrow.

"Now that's some tranquilizer Dr. McCoy gave him."

A/N- Please review. Reviews help my self esteem. I like my self esteem. Story beta-read by Tocxica the Mutant Dustbunny.

Tocxica- I don't remember Sarek ASKING for forgiveness.

The Bubbles- He didn't have to. Amanda's cool like that.
