A/N: The directions were to write a scene involving a tire swing, a bag of cheetos, and a pair of old sneakers. This is what mine turned into,

A Tire Swing, a Bag of Cheetos, and a Pair of Old Sneakers

Mello made Matt go outside. Matt was not quite happy about this, he would rather be inside playing Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the umpteenth time since it had come out. Instead he was outside, sitting on a tire swing under a big old elm tree.

From a distance Matt could spot through his goggles Mello dominating the football field. To clarify, Mello and Matt were at Wammy's House, location: Winchester, England, therefore for football is soccer.

Anyway, Mello was scoring goal after goal after goal, and Matt felt bad for the poor kid on goalie, who was dodging the oncoming balls like they were bullets.

It was easy for Matt to spot Mello, his girlish golden hair and black attire made him stand out from the other orphans.

Growing hungry, Matt lightly tore a bag of Cheetos he had brought with him. Dangling an orange stick of junk food on the side of his mouth like a cigarette, Matt scuffed his foot in the earth, growing bored with Mello's football game, with the tire swing he sat in, and of the cruel, cruel sun beating down upon his face.

Matt's hands itched for a video game of any sorts, or his laptop, or something of today's advanced technology. Mello really owed him one for forcing him outside…

Matt's mind drifted off into the land where Mello was the type of friend who shared their chocolate with you, and did not complain constantly about an anti-social albino. Where Mello was cheerful, not pissed off, and where all was well…

"Hey scatterbrain! I'm talking to you, ya know!" Matt looked up from his Converse sneakers, still new looking from lack of use, but they were old all the same. Matt saw Mello, M2 saw M1. M1's face was flushed slightly, slightly sweaty, and his impeccably groomed hair was disheveled, There was a scowl on Mello's face, but when wasn't there?

"Oh, hey Mells. Good game?"

Mello smirked haughtily. "My team won, but I was the one scoring all the goals so we only won because of me."

Matt smiled crookedly, glad that Mello's ego had been satisfied. Sure, Mello could be a self-centered bastard, but it was pure Hell for Matt when Mello didn't believe he was on top of the world.

"I bet Near can't play like you." Matt said softly. Mello laughed, white teeth gleaming in the light.

"Let's go in, Matty. I'm glad you came outside to watch me."

Matt cocked his head. Did Mello get hit with the ball or something? The hot-headed blond never showed thankfulness. Never ever.

Before Matt could pull his wits together Mello frowned. "Sun struck you stupid or something?"

Matt shook his head, a few locks of crimson hair falling in front of his face. "No, I don't think so Mello."

Mello stuck out his dirt smeared hand. Matt took it and stood up from the tire swing.

"Hey Matt, I bet I can beat you are Mario Kart today."

Matt grinned. "Mello, you're pretty awesome, but not awesome enough to beat me at video games."

Mello's shining ice blue eyes narrowed at the proclamation of a challenge,

"We'll see about that."

The End
