Sweet Nothings

Sherlock Holmes said nothing when Watson (incorrectly) labeled him a brain without a heart; a doctor would know that one cannot survive without the other.

He did not venture to comment when he deduced the growing affection between Watson and Miss Morstan, certain of where it would most likely lead.

Nor did he say anything when Watson confirmed his suspicions and announced his engagement.

As he stood beside Watson in the church, watching as two (three) lives were forever altered…

"Speak now or forever hold your peace."

… he held his peace, and said nothing.

He remained silent on the subject of returning to a half empty flat, of fires in the hearth growing dim and restless nights lonely.

Had there been anyone around to listen, Sherlock Holmes would have said nothing of loving his friend enough to let him go.
