It was typical for a rainy night in where James lived. It was not typical, however, to see James sacrificing his beauty rest to sit by the window of his room. The brunette sat adjacent to the wide piece of glass separating him from the outside. His gaze was fixated to a raindrop as it hit his window. He traced its trail as it cascaded down its smooth surface, combining with the raindrops along its way. He followed the raindrop till it disappeared from his view, and began from the top, repeating the entire process.

"You doing okay?" The voice that came from behind him surprisingly didn't startle him at all.

On the contrary, he felt even more at peace when he heard that familiar voice dripping with utter care and concern. James leaned his head on the glass beside him as he made tracing motions, seemingly joining the raindrops scattered on the piece of transparent material together. He hummed a tune to himself as he listened to the shuffling behind him get louder before a hand was carefully placed on his shoulder.

"It's been three weeks. You've gotta learn to let go." The hand turned his shoulder, effectively getting him to face the owner.

Another hand was placed and slight pressure was exerted in giving him a firm but reassuring squeeze. James exhaled deeply. He peeled one of the hands away and turned back to the window.

"It's not about her. It's about you guys." He positioned his head back on the glass.

"Us?"

"Look at this, Kendall." He pointed to a raindrop. "Its journey starts here."

Kendall studied the raindrop. He followed it down the window until it was completely gone.

"That raindrop. It represents my life." James shifted his gaze back to Kendall. "As I go on, different people come into my life. But not just anybody. Those raindrops that joined it... they represent you. And Carlos and Logan. You guys become a part of my life.

And through everything— bumps on the road, creases in the path— you guys stay with me. And when that raindrop left the window, it left together, with each raindrop still a part of it."

Kendall placed a hand on James' knee. "I get it," he said with a sad smile.

"I just wanna say thank you... For coming into my life, and hopefully, for staying till the end." James said as a tear dropped down his cheek. "I lost my parents, Kendall. I can't bear to lose you guys too."

"I promise you this, James," he said barely above a whisper as he brought up a thumb to wipe away the tear track on his friend's cheek. "We've been friends for ten years. I'll never leave you, I'll be here for you, no matter how what... Forever and always..."

Kendall extended his arms as he enveloped his friend in a warm embrace. James tucked his face in the crook of Kendall's neck as silently let his tears roll. Kendall placed his chin on top of his head as he rubbed circles in his back, hoping to provide assurance as he shushed him. It had been a rough three weeks for him. But with Kendall, Logan and Carlos by his side, he was sure the rest of his journey was so much easier.

Mrs Knight watched from the door as she kept her own tears at bay.
