"You were the greatest king..." The words echoed in her mind, slowly changing to, "You should have been a king." Arturius Pendragon still knelt in her position on the hill of bodies that was the only landmark in the never ending field of dead. Spears sprouted from bare patches of ground like leafless and branchless trees. The only living thing to be seen was Arturius herself. "I should have done better, I-I...failed them all..." The king seemed to shrink down as though her failures were a weight that would never be removed. Sunlight shone from above, illuminating her face. "You were the greatest king, all the other knights would have said the same as I." Arturius stood up, the voice sounded like Lancelot and yet...somehow unlike him.
"Arturius, Arturius..." Blinding light engulfed her, "What is it you seek?"
"Redemption!" The king cried, "Please!"
"Arturius, you were the servant a king should have been. The protector that gave voice to Logres...and created out of it a nation! What person could ask for more?" Arturius remained silent a moment,
"It was my fault from the beginning, I should have seen-"
A new voice, rich and deep, stern-yet gentle interrupted,
"My daughter, what you wish for, is to be God. My child," the voice continued gently, "You were and are only human. It is not your place to save the world."
Arturius looked up, "Who are you to tell me that I cannot?"
A torrent of wind swirled around her, lifting her hair and causing her to tremble.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. The Everlasting and the Almighty. The Creator and the Father. Can you not guess, My daughter?"
"Yahweh..." she whispered.
"If redemption is your wish, than redemption you shall receive. But My daughter...when you return, let your heart be guided to Me..."
The shone brighter, the wind stronger. "Lord?! Lord!" Arturius screamed. A rainbow of color encircled her. Everything disappeared.
Where am I? She wondered. She could only see blue and...wisps of cloud. She was laying down, her hands under her head. A light breeze ruffled her hair. Arturius sat up abruptly, she was in a park. Children ran amok with balls and strange disks tossing them or kicking them. Arturius looked down at herself, she was wearing a dark blue dress and white shoes. What? she thought.
"I didn't think you would return so soon."
Arturius became angry.
"Emiya Kiritsigu"
"More or less," Kiritsigu sat down beside her, his eyes were riveted on a small boy of...nine? Ten?
Arturius looked at him too, she didn't recognize him. She turned back to Kiritsigu, he seemed older and yet somehow hue seemed happy.
"So then, Saber, why have you come back?"
Arturius started to answer but shocked stopped abruptly, "I-I can't remember. I have to do something, but I can't remember..." The world seemed to fade as she concentrated on remembering, something…to do with…Lancelot.
Kiritsigu got to his feet, "I wish you luck- whatever your newest quest is." He looked at her one last time, "I have no wish to ever see you again."
Saber could have happily said the same,
"Farewell, Kiritsigu."
Arturius sat and watched as children and hours passed.
