Always
The crystal, for all its power, was little more than a stone. Without the willing sacrifice of the queen it would have remained so. Atlantis would have been drowned beneath the waves. It would have been a catastrophe beyond imagining.
For the many years afterwards, the queen watched on lovingly. Her people lived their lives happily. Kashekim was as he always had been. Her beloved Kidagakash grew older, wiser and more beautiful. The fading of her people's knowledge was in direct connection with her ever-growing sorrow that she would never hold her child again.
In the passing millennia she guided her daughter. She protected her from all the harm that she could. The crystal's power cradled Kidagakash in every way that it could, but it would never be enough. The queen would never be satisfied and the protection she offered could never reach full capacity because of it.
She only found hope once more when Milo came. The way he acted and how he cared for her people renewed the queen's hope. It let her hold her daughter one final time. The loving embrace that lasted only moments in her eternal life was all the strength that she needed.
The pureness of love is all that protects Atlantis from harm, and it always would.
Author's Note: Oh… Eurgh… Ah… Ew, that's a sappy, sappy ending. I feel like a need a good long shower to return to my angst-ridden self. This is just… beyond words. I don't like this. This is not nice. However, there had to be something 'joyful' in this. I will write more for this fandom. I will write better for this fandom. However, this is as nice *coughnastycough* as I can do. Thank you for reading. I apologise for my reluctance and that I couldn't deliver to the best of my ability with all this sappiness.
