Grace Yewbeam and the "Absolute Truth"

"Grace Amanda Yewbeam why did you draw cats on the wall when you know it's wrong?" Julia Yewbeam asked her daughter, who was looking around for someone to blame. Sitting on her bed, Grace looked rather guilty; however, she was not willing to admit the truth quite yet.

Her eyes landed on Charlie the Bear. (Given to her, of course, by none other than Cousin Charlie Bone) Grace did not want to get a time—out, so she pointed to Charlie T.B and said in a matter -of-fact manner and calm voice,

"Charlie did it."

Julia, in absolute surprise and sneaking suspicion that her daughter was trying to pull one over her, asked in a faked surprise voice;

"Charlie? Charlie T.B drew those cats?"

Shaking her head solemnly in reply to her mother's question was the first reply to her answer. Then Grace, in a tone replied to her mother which made her mother have to try to not laugh at her, replied,

"Yes Mommy he tok crayon box and he was really bad! He draws on walls not me." (A/N: Grace is still learning to talk, so words will be spelled incorrectly to show this) Paton, who was listening outside the bedroom door, could not stop his laughter from coming out; however, upon entering the room he stifled his laughter by coughing. Then, looking to Julia, Paton winked and, grabbing the accused bear, he looked to his daughter and said in a questioning tone,

"Grace, look at Charlie then look at the ah… cats, if you would be so kind(the cats, who had heard themselves being called, came to the room and held still for a moment); thank you. Now, how can Charlie have drawn the cats when said cats are above his head?" Then, to demonstrate this, he placed Charlie on the ground where the bear reached six and a half inches from the floor and was nowhere near the cats who were a good twelve inches more from where the cats stood. At this, Paton then turned to Grace who, biting her bottom lip, mumbled,

"He kan't" and with this Julia and Paton explained why she couldn't draw on the walls. Then after that was all done, the Yewbeams sat their daughter down and told her of the Red King and the powers she had come to inherit, and why she had to be very careful when she used them. As for the cats, well, they made a great addition to the fridge after they were transferred from the wall to a lovely piece of paper, and still live to this day on the Yewbeam Fridge.
