A/N: I know this is short, but I figured short was ok for this. To those of you reading Back to the Beginning, I haven't forgotten, just taking a little break, I will continue it shortly, most likely after one of my classes is over.

Quick side note: To those of you who have noted about my saying that Kellen was darker than most Vulcans, my knowledge is based off of TOS, which, other than Next Generation(which I watch once in awhile---not enough to know storyline of it all to heart) and a little Enterprise, is the only Star Trek I know. Never seen Voyager or the others. So I'm leaving this is as is, apologies if that annoys....and if this comes off as harsh, I don't mean it to.

Disclaimer: Just own Kellen

A tiny hand gripped the finger that came over the side of the basinet. The hand that wasn't being held captive with by tiny fingers, traced over the small face. Dark eyes peered up at similar dark eyes. Only seconds before a huge cry was being emanated from the little body, but now the child was silent. Wonder and curiosity filled the boy's eyes as he looked up at his father.

"You are very fascinating." Spock said as the baby pulled his finger to his mouth. According to Doctor McCoy, Kellen was now teething and would often need something to ease the pain in his gums. Nyota had gotten several objects for Kellen to use and Spock often found them quite useful when he was working and required silence. There were times however, like now, that he found it easier and quite logical, to offer up his finger as a teething device.

He could feel a calm come over the child as he fell into a slumber and his grip loosened on his hand. Spock continued to analyze the features of his son's face. Kellen's skin was darker than Spock's yet lighter that Nyota's. By Vulcan standards, the child was darker than most Vuclans. Spock traced a gentle finger over the baby's pointed ears; they were the true sign of his heritage, despite being only a quarter Vulcan. The human side of Spock hoped that they would not one day be a point of ridicule. Spock allowed himself another minute before stepping away from the basinet.

While this was the time he often meditated, he'd come to find that looking over his son and watching him sleep often brought the same calm over him that meditation did. He found it quite fascinating.

"He's quite beautiful isn't he?" he turned and saw Nyota standing in the doorway, dressed in a nightgown. Walking towards her he held out his fingers, she gladly returned the gesture before making her way over to the basinet herself. She gently brushed the black hair with her fingers.

"I find him fascinating." Nyota smiled. She knew that he meant that more than just as if he were talking about a science experiment.

"He is a blessed child to have you as his father." Spock came beside her and once again looked upon the sleeping child.

"As well as being honored to have you as a mother." Nyota reached over and entwined her fingers with his. He had learned early on that he found great pleasure in having her fingers with his.

"Let's go to bed. Kell's fine now, for a couple hours at least." She said, leading him out of the room.

The End
