It's been a long time since I've written anything, but since it's summer and I've recently picked up BBS to finish those reports, so I figured, why not? I haven't seen a lot of quiet, awkward Ventus, so I decided to try to illustrate what it might be like for the first few weeks/months since arriving at The Land of Departure in a rosy light. Rosy as in teenage romantical interactionly. Those aren't even words.
Disclaimer: Fanfiction is fan-made.
Ventus meekly put his head around the corner. One of The Land of Departure's typically quiet corridors was filled with voices of his two friends (could he even call them that?), Terra and Aqua. They were both wearing noticeably lighter clothing, considering today was an unusually hot day. The blond himself was pressed up against the walls of the castle, grateful for their coolness when the weather was so warm.
"I was thinking about going for a swim today; cold water would be great right about now," a low voice rumbled. That was definitely Terra.
"Oh, but I don't think I want to leave the castle. My skin is going to peel if I go out with the sun beating down like that," a girly voice rang in the hallway. Aqua.
"You like looking like a ghost?"
"Hey, it's easy for you to say so, Terra; you can only tan. I'll have you know that it hurts when the inner layers are exposed to the sun."
Ventus smiled at the two's interaction. Aqua seemed to take offence in a very light hearted manner. He thought it was dignified.
However, her fellow partner partaking in the conversation could only sigh in response. "Maybe Ventus could join me. I wonder if he even feels comfortable hanging out with us, though... he's only said a few words to me."
"Huh. He and I talk just fine."
Terra looked taken aback. "Really?"
"Yeah."
"The kid likes you more than me?" There was a pause; Ventus assumed that Aqua had shrugged. "Damn. I feel one-upped."
The boy's cheeks flushed as he eavesdropped on their conversation. He didn't mean for Terra to feel excluded. Something about Aqua just made him feel reassured and okay. Terra was a cheerful guy, and he didn't seem like he had any bad intentions, but Ventus felt bad about damping the mood whenever he opened his mouth. The blond wondered what he could do to let Terra know that he didn't dislike him.
A loud chuckle interrupted the boy's thoughts. The two's voices were getting closer. Ventus decided to tip toe away so he wouldn't be heard, but instead, he found himself at a dead end with a notably rusty door. Panicking, he decided to slump down and pretend to sleep against the corner of the hallway. This is a pretty stupid idea, he thought, but nonetheless executed it just when they were nearing his side of the corridor. Ventus knew he was a light sleeper, so he pretended to rub his eyes, as if he were just waking up.
"Ventus? Were you sleeping on the floor?" Aqua looked amused.
Ventus nodded slowly in response, looking groggy. "The corridor walls are colder than my bed."
"You sure are something, you know that?" Terra chuckled, and patted the blond's head. It felt nice, letting the crown of his head be touched. "Aren't you warm? Aqua and me are sweating bullets and you're covered as if it were early Spring."
Ventus shook his head, and noted with discontent that his head wasn't being patted anymore. "These are the only clothes I have," he mumbled.
The two looked surprised.
"I don't have any swimming trunks either," the boy added.
