Hatter didn't even know how it happened, but she found herself standing in front of the bathroom mirror at precisely 4:03 AM, inspecting her teeth, then scrubbing them raw with a toothbrush. Not long after, Jack had woken up and come over to investigate what his girlfriend was doing up at such an appalling time.

"H- Hatter, what are you doing?" he stuttered, his voice still slurring from drowsiness. She made no effort to respond, just continued to brush and then spit out into the sink. "Are you okay?"

"Do I look okay?" Hatter snapped, and Jack was taken aback by her outburst. She let out a rough groan. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap... It's just something is bothering me, is all."

"What is it?" Jack asked patiently, putting a hand on her shoulder to calm her down.

"I... I don't really know. I was just sleeping, and... I don't know, my teeth kind of feel like... like they're tingling. Like they really, really itch, and I know that sounds really preposterous, because teeth can't itch, but it feels so horrible, and I simply am going to go mad if it goes on for another minute." She began to gnaw and grind her teeth together, and Jack pulled her hand away.

"Stop it, that isn't going to help. Look, just, maybe, gargle or something, and I'm sure it'll go away."

Three hours later and four containers of mouthwash and plenty of Aspirins, Jack decided it was best to just give the doctor a call. "A three day wait-list? What do you mean?" He nearly shouted into the phone. He winced when the other line went dead, it probably wasn't good to shout at a dentist.

Hatter had her face buried in a iPad, and he walked over and viewed it, before Hatter said a loud cuss word.

"I bet it's that... sensitive teeth, look right there." She left to go find something to drink, and selected a peppermint tea packet from the cupboard and made herself a little pot. Jack made a face once the horrendous truth began to sink in.

"Umm, Hatter, you might not want to drink that." He bit his lip at the expression on her face. Hatter was practically a tea addict, so how was he going to break the news to her? "Because... well, apparently if you have sensitive teeth, then the tea eats away at your gums, which is what causes the inflammation. So it might be better not to drink tea anymore...?" Hatter just stood there and stared at him in shock. She opened her mouth to say something, then abruptly closed it.

"That's absurd. There has to be another reason. I mean, it's the Internet, anything is possible there. For example, a poptart cat that sings and craps out rainbows." She said, before grinding her teeth together again.

"Nope... it's probably the problem. I'm sorry." Hatter rolled her eyes.

"Whatever... a few aggravated teeth aren't going to detach me from tea."

A few weeks later, Jack had to introduce Hatter to coffee.
