Once upon a time,

There was a prince.

His father was the king of the whole kingdom, and he ruled with kindness and love.

But the prince on the other hand, was the opposite of his father.

He was admired by all the women of the kingdom, the men jealous of his status among them. He courted many of his suitors. He was greedy, underhanded, selfish, and just down right mean.

One day, as he was walking along the meadow in the front of his castle, he found a white dandelion growing in the tall grass. He picked it, and shutting his eyes he whispered, "I wish for the perfect woman for me would appear before me." With that, he blew off the small pufflets, watching them float away.

His gaze soon fell upon a beautiful young maiden who had just happened to be watching the petals fly. "Oh my, how pretty…" Her hair was black, wavy and shiny. Her skin was lightly tanned. Her eyes were violet and shining like the stars at night. Her red gown accentuated her lovely curvy figure. And her smile was just radiant. She must have been fond of nature, because she had a woven crown of red berries in her hair.

The prince approached her and smiled his famous smile. "Yes, you certainly are, my dear." He ran his fingers through his black, white-striped hair, his red velvet cape flowing in the light breeze. "You must have answered my wish, because you have already captured my heart."

Her eyes turned to the boy in front of her, her midnight purple eyes watching him. "Oh, well hello, Prince." In her hand was a small brown chipmunk, nibbling on a seed she had given it. She muttered something to it, and it jumped out of her palms and scurried away.

"My Princess, you may call me Death the Kid, if you wish. And may I ask for your name?"

"My name is Ariadne, Death the Kid. And if I may ask, what did you mean by 'answer your wish'?" She tilted her head in the smallest manner.

"I wished for the perfect woman for me to appear before my eyes, and here you are." The prince eyed her up and down, mindfully approving her looks.

"I do not know what you are speaking of. No one is perfect, not even I." She turned and started to walk away, the breeze blowing her elegant hair as she did so. Ariadne stopped and turned back, several feet away from the boy. "Your selfish wish. I do not like it. Many women may have fallen for your looks, but I know the real you. You are nothing like your father. Unlike you, he is kind, loyal, selfless, generous, and nice. You are greedy, sneaky, and mean." She faced away from him.

"Many people detest you. And my view of you will never change." And there, she walked away, disappearing into the forest that led to the village where she lived.

Death the Kid was speechless. He has never met a woman who would turn him down like that.

She was different.

And it enticed him.

He accepted her last statement as a challenge, and with a smirk, he said, "We will see about that."
