Setting Kristy Straight
Mercy knew having Adams ex-wife in the house was going to cause problems. Her major concern was the affect that it was going to have on Jesse, her step daughter. Mercy knew Adam would not stand up to Christy or so she thought, because he never did when they were married.
The Day Kristy Arrives
Adam hears Mercy enter the house as he is talking to Darryl in another room. He is just waiting to hear what Christy is going to say to his current wife. As he listens to Kristy ask Mercy for the paper towels that haven't moved, a serge of anger erupts within him for the disrespect given to Mercy.
"Kristy, has anything in the kitchen moved from where you placed it?" Adam says in the most even tone he can find.
"No, Adam I just figured things would have changed." Kristy says in a small voice looking for sympathy.
"Things didn't change because this is the pack house and they all knew where everything was. I was the new person that needed to learn where where stuff is. Pack comes first." Mercy said in a very honest, matter of fact tone.
Adam looked at Mercy full of love for who she is and what she said.
Kristy saw this look and had to stop it. "I was the woman of the house where this kitchen was my domain, husband, then family, then pack come first. If something needs to be moved to make my husband or family happy then that's what would have happened. This is not the packs home!" She finally said so frustrated with all things werewolf she could no longer see straight.
At this point Adam was fuming. His eyes were so gold Mercy didn't know how he was still human.
"Kristy the pack owns half of this house. You knew this when we moved in!" Taking a few calming breaths he continued. "Mercy is my wife, the woman I love AND 2nd in the pack. This house is more hers than it was ever yours."
"But Adam I helped design this house. It's my home." Kristy wined, looking for sympathy.
"It stopped being your home the day that you walked out on me! Mercy was there for me as a friend. She has been the mother Jesse needed when you abandoned her. She has been there to always pick up your messes. " Adam now stated loudly not wanting to hear her response.
"I know I have been a bad mo..." Kristy tried to get out before Adam interrupted her.
"Yes, you have been, but Mercy still respects that she is not Jesse's mother and she defends you to her!" Adam yelled.
Adam had never yelled at her when they were married. Kristy thought. How dare he now! "How dare you judge me Adam, and what is so good about your new little grease monkey!"
"Grease Monkey!" Adam shouted back at Kristy while listening felling for Mercy and expecting to feel rage from her.
However he did not get rage he found indifference and this made him concerned and curious, but this was not the time to figure out that problem. That could wait until after his house was moving in right direction.
"Yes Adam you married for whatever reason a little grease monkey who is not good enough for you. You deserve someone of your high stature in this community. Someone to raise Jesse how she should be raised. Not as a girl who changes their own oil and is okay with working long hours."
This is where Mercy found her anger. " So you would like Jesse to be unable to take care of herself and not have a back up plan if things didn't work in her favor, or do you want her to marry off rich and take care of you for when Adam opens his eyes and realizes why you still make shallow attempts to be with your daughter and he quits funding your poor choices!"
"I... I... I just want what is best for my baby girl!" Kristy said trying to save herself.
"What is best for her is being able to stand on her own two feet which maybe you need to do." Adam said in a thoughtful voice.
He knew Mercy had not had the easiest life when she was younger, and that helped her bond with the challenges that Jesse had with her mom. He knew how good of an influence Mercy was on Jesse and on him too apparently. Kristy needed a change of pace and he was going to give it to her.
"Kristy, you know I loved you, but I helped create who you are now and after his is over I'm done helping you! You have to learn to be an adult and be independent and if that is marring rich so you don't have to be responsible fine but it won't be with my money and until you get settled down I don't want Jesse spending any substantial time with you so enjoy being her until we get this solved."
"No Adam, you said you'd always take care of me!" Kristy said through tears because she knew what she was loosing.
At that point Mercy had been walking out of the room no longer needing to be apart of the monumental changes that were happening before them.
"This is all your fault". Kristy yelled at Mercy. "Nothing would have changed had that gold digging grease monkey not moved into that trashy trailer."
Adams eyes were now bright gold and it was hard for him not to change. He growled out just loud enough for Kristy to hear. "Go down to your room and stay there until I send someone to get you. If you attempt to escape that room or this house you are on your own!"
Sitting in her and Adam's room she could be live her ears. Maybe everything would be okay.
