Hey you guys! So, today marks my third year anniversary of being on this site and, to celebrate, I thought it would be nice to bring back my first fanfiction, of course revised.
Some of you may possibly recognize this and, yes, it is a remake of A Beautiful Princess and A Beastly Thief. I will be keeping the original only to look back and see my progression as well as to see just how much everyone enjoyed it.
Disclaimer: I do not own Soul Eater
Prologue
Maka's POV
I rode my horse through the thick greenery, the sunlight bleeding through the gaps in the branches above my head, and my black cloak whipping behind me in the wind. I heard them gaining on me from and I kicked my horse hard in the sides, "Come on, Blair, hya!" Blair whinnied and sped on faster, her dark mane blowing in my face. I huffed out a breath and shook my head a little to try and get her dark brown—almost black—hair out of my face, and, when I did, my jaw dropped. I harshly pulled back on the reins and Blair skidded to a halt. She had stopped just in time alongside the top of a rushing waterfall. However, I, on the other hand, flew out of my saddle and into the air. Luckily, though, I landed on my stomach on top of a large tree trunk wedged in the center of the fall. The force knocked the wind out of my frail, flat-chested body. I wanted to lie there, just to regain my breath, but their voices calling me from behind left me no choice but to stand quickly.
"Princess Maka!" I heard my maid. Oh, no. I thought. They're not gonna get me. I gasped, my heart racing, when I felt the trunk begin to lurch under my feet. The water's pressure must have weakened its hold. My emerald eyes narrowed upon my situation. Then, pulling my cloak's hood over my head, I turned and leapt onto a neighboring rock just to see the tree's roots break loose sending it down the hundreds of feet down the mighty waterfall. I waited to see it fade away into the mist, before jumping onto the other shore.
I continued running, never casting a single look behind me, and climbed a nearby oak tree until I was at the very top. I placed my hand on the bark as I stood on the limb and gazed at the view around me, before I let out a sigh. "Aw man." I groaned folding my arms, closing my eyes, and leaning my back against the shaded trunk. "I hate being the princess. Hate having to be so proper. Ugh!" I groaned loudly as I flopped down on my backside to sit on the tree branch; my back up against the trunk and my arms wrapped around my knees as I opened my eyes to stare up at the sky. My gaze became distant as my mind wandered like it always had when I ran off to be on my own. "I wish there was someone who understood me." I said dreamily.
It was very peaceful now that I was a safe enough distance from my pursuers. The wind stirred my dusty blonde pigtails, but of course every good thing just has to end, right? I heard a snap and was immediately pulled from my thoughts. "Huh?" I looked down just to see the branch had broken. I gasped and frantically clawed the air above me and successfully grabbed a hold of the branch overhead. "Oh, great." I grumbled, completely and utterly annoyed, as I fixed my grip then sighed. "Now, what am I gonna do?" A squawk from above made me clench my jaw and look up. Two crows had landed on either side of my white-gloved hands. I whimpered upon the fate of this situation. "Ow! Hey!" I cried when one crow pecked my fingers, then, its friend decided it would be cool to do the very same thing. "Ow! Stop!" My fingers throbbed in pain.
Then, of course, they thought it would be fun to play a game that involved taking turns to peck at me. "Hey! Stop! Ow!" I winced as more of their pals migrated over and began to swarm all around me. "Ow! Hey! Ow! Stop it! Ow! Get outta here!" I raged, flailing my arms around shooing them away. Well, me being an idiot, I now realized the moronic action I just taken upon myself and I looked up in grim dismay at the empty space where the tree branch once was. "Aw, crap." I muttered before I began my plummet down to the forest floor. Frantically trying to slow my fall, I tried to grab branches but of course that was impossible due to the rate I was plummeting at. "Can it get any worse?!" I yelled unenthusiastically and half expected it to rain, as that always happens after one asks that question, but what did happen next did not involve rain, but it did involve water. I wasn't even able to take a breath before I plunged into a fast-flowing river.
Soul's POV
I leisurely strolled out of my small village, my hands shoved into my grey pockets. "Hey, Soul," snickered Jack, who was—unfortunately—one of my neighbors. "Where ya goin? Ta sniff some wild flowers?" He and his friends laughed and high-fived each other, like his lame excuse for an insult was worthy of winning an award or some crap. He was an annoying, obnoxious, pale, scrawny, blue-eyed cretin with spiky, blonde hair. I stopped and grinned, trying very hard to contain my anger. Man, I hated everything about him.
"Ya know," I said with my eyes closed and turned to him, "ya better watch what ya say or someone'll kill you." I opened my eyes and let my burning, red eyes scorch his icy cold, blue ones.
Jack sneered, "What was that? That a threat, Evans?" He whipped out his knife. I glared at him. Jack was an asshole, I don't remember when he ever wasn't, but I'll admit the one thing: that he was actually damn well handy at using a knife. It was a stare down, and a long one.
Then, I turned my back on him again and began to walk away. "What'sa matter?" Jack grinned widely, his eyes surely reflecting his insane personality like they always did. "Too much of a softy ta fight back?" His friends laughed in their obnoxious, irritating way, but I just kept walking with my hands shoved into my pockets.
"More like you're too scared to make the first move!" I called back smiling tauntingly not looking back. Jack snarled I didn't need to be looking at him to know that. I knew him too well. I knew everyone here like the back of my hand.
I walked through the forest, farther and farther from my village. We were a village of thieves. We stole from the Kingdom to survive and I was, honestly, getting tired of it. The palace guards were always out looking for us, but our village was too far into the forest that they always ended up quitting.
My thoughts kept me busy until I stopped in a sunny patch covered in wild flowers. I wasn't a softy. I could snap a bone when I needed to. And I wasn't afraid to even kill. I lay down, my arms folded behind my head and my eyes closed as I listened to the sounds of the forests: the birds singing, the wind faintly whistling, the sound of the river nearby, and the . . . screaming? I opened my eyes and sat up then stared at the river drifting between two curtains of trees and other shrubbery. I jumped when something splashed into it and I quickly made my way over to see what the hell was going on.
At first, I thought I was just imagining things. With that in mind, I bowed my head and smiled a toothy grin. "Jack just got me riled up, is all. Yeah. Nothing outta the ordinary." Then something burst out of the water, and I gasped, my eyes opening wide before drifting over to the source. My jaw dropped at the sight. It was a girl! She panted heavily and tried to grab a hold of a rock, but the angry current ferociously pushed her forward.
One wave pulled her under and I watched frozen in fear if she would surface again. A moment later, she popped back up gasping for air. The river was much stronger than her, and the next thing I knew, she was floating a few feet alongside the shore I was standing on. I began to run next to her, "Hang on!" I shouted and she tried to look at me. A wave slammed her body against a rock and her eyes rolled back as she surrendered herself and let the water push her under into its dark, sinister depths.
I dove in after her. The water was strong, but I fought it with almost equal strength. Finally, I saw the unconscious girl drifting in the current and grabbed a hold of her wrist before fighting my way back to the surface. My head finally broke through and I struggled to the shore. When I finally made it, I flopped my backside onto the grass while my hand propped up the girl's head in my lap. "Hey. . . Hey!" I finally said after catching my breath. She didn't move and I thought she was gone, but then she coughed and slowly opened her eyes.
Maka's POV
I cracked my eyes open and stared at the person above me. My vision was still really blurry, though, so I was not able to see them clearly. From what I could tell by the broad upper body, my savior was a guy. He stared at me with deep, crimson eyes, but that's all I was able to distinguish. The sunlight was too bright for me to even identify the color of his hair. "Who—cough—are you?"
He smiled at me and I thought I saw sharp teeth. "Well, I think I'm the one who just saved your life."
I tried to sit up, but couldn't, then squeezed my eyes shut before opening them again, trying to blink my eyes into focus. "You—cough—saved me?"
He sighed, "Yeah, that's what I just said if you were listening."
I squeezed my eyes shut again. "Princess Maka! Where are you? Princess!" I gasped when I heard my maid's voice and my eyes opening wide.
My rescuer, who held my head up, gasped and dropped me onto the forest floor. I quickly sat upright, gritting my teeth tight and clenching my eyes shut as I held the back of my, now painfully throbbing, head. Of course now my vision was all cleared up and I turned to just see the bushes swishing. He must've fled when my maid called me. I thought, then sighed. Don't blame him.
A moment later, my maid and two guards ran up to me, "Oh, Mistress!" My maid breathed as she put a dainty hand to her busty chest. "Thank heavens you're all right!"
"C'mon, Tsubaki!" I whined and she scowled at me, putting her hands on her hips like a mother scolding her child.
"Now, Maka, you know we've been through this. You are—"
"'—not allowed to leave the Kingdom without supervision.'" I finished rolling my eyes. I knew this rule too well. "I know, I know. But I'm not a little kid anymore, Tsubaki! I can take care of myself!"
Tsubaki raised an eyebrow and just gave me a look, "Oh? Then, how come we heard you screaming?"
I lightly slapped my face with my hand. "You heard that?" I moaned grimly.
"Yes," she nodded, "now you're coming back. Now." Once that order was given, he guards surrounded me and gently showed me into the carriage before shutting the door.
One guard mounted Blair beside the wagon, and the other seized the reins at the front of the carriage. Inside, Tsubaki sat in front of me with her hands neatly folded on her lap. She began to lecture me about 'behaving like a princess' and 'not going on dangerous excursions". But I didn't listen—as always—and just stared out the window. Who was that boy? Why did he save me? Were his intentions of robbing me? I needed answers, but the only clue I had about finding him were those crimson eyes.
Well, happy anniversary to me! Wouldn't be as happy with all of my stories if it weren't for you guys Reviewing, Favoriting, and Following them, so thank you all very much! I hope you enjoyed this remake and I'll see you guys next time. :)
