AN/ This fic was written for LilCosette's 16th birthday. It features loads of references to the Les Miserables song "Castle on a Cloud." I don't own that song, just like how I don't own Doctor Who. This fic is from the TARDIS POV and is a part of my TARDIS 100 series. I hope you all enjoy this fluffy little 9th Doctor one shot. Thanks to Cam for betaing.
Happy Birthday, Bindi!
I decided to land them somewhere different this time.
Rose and the Doctor were feeling particularly adventurous. They decided to put their trust in me and let me choose a location, a point in time and space completely at random. I thought very hard about where I wanted them to go. Not Earth. We've been there way too many times. I also didn't want to put them somewhere I knew they've already been together. I wanted them to experience something special, not dangerous, and new.
It was a very tricky landing. The ground was not very stable on this planet. In fact, there was barely any ground at all. Both locals and visitors generally liked this planet because there weren't any floors to sweep. It was a favourite vacation spot for those who were forced to do a lot of cleaning. The locals had developed a special way of floating around that was fairly easy to master. I thought Rose and the Doctor might have a bit of fun with it.
The Doctor opened the door and poked his head out first, just in case I had decided to be snarky and send them some place dangerous. He was greeted by white clouds all around. It wasn't foggy, just fluffy and white. The white wasn't harsh and spoiled. It was pure and heavenly. He grinned and sent me a thought. "Nice…very nice."
I thanked him.
"So where are we, Doctor?" Rose asked from behind him.
"I'm not sure, but I don't think it's dangerous." He glanced down as Rose appeared at his shoulder, peering out at the peaceful white landscape. "Careful, watch your step," the Doctor advised. "There doesn't appear to be much of a floor."
The Doctor stepped out and quickly found his balance on the difficult ground. Rose had a little bit more trouble and the Doctor had to help support her while she got used to floating.
"It's like we're walking on air," she exclaimed.
The Doctor grinned again, his blue eyes shining. "I think we are," he said.
"It's very…white, isn't it?" Rose observed.
The Doctor groaned loudly, yet entirely inwardly at the obvious comment. He forced his voice to sound pleased. "Yes, it is."
They didn't go too far away. I was still able to keep track of them quite easily. They were approached by a lady who was also all in white, She greeted them warmly. She explained that this planet was called Cloud. It was a very appropriate name, in my opinion. I had landed in the castle of the royal family. The Doctor and Rose were introduced to the princess Belindaette and her handsome new prince Chaelmi. The Doctor's slightly psychic paper went to work to ensure everything went smoothly. There were no hassles whatsoever. They had a perfectly lovely afternoon relaxing and even playing some games. They laughed a lot, to my delight. I love the sound of their laughter.
I know that they were very glad to have a break from all the running, danger, stress and hassles. I chose this planet because it was quiet and peaceful. You couldn't be sad there. In fact, there was a law against crying. You had to be happy, but it wasn't a problem. This place was wonderful.
We were all kind of sad to leave the soft white planet, but it had to be done. I would have been happy to stay for longer, but the Doctor decided it was time for us to move on. There were still so many other places in the universe left to visit.
