A.N. First time with Night World! You know, I always thought that, since everyone else loved Ash, I was gonna love him the most, too. Actually, so far (I've only read the first two books) my favorites are Eric and Quinn. Loooooove them. So this story is maybe a little silly, maybe a little OOC, but sometimes, it's nice not to care. :P

Enjoy!

Disclaimer: What would you dooOOo for a Klondike bar. Certainly not own Night World, that's fo sho.

Rashel Smiled

"Did you see that?"

"See what?"

"Rashel."

"Rashel?"

"Yeah."

"What about her?"

"She smiled."

"What?"

"Rashel smiled."

"She what?"

"Smiled."

"What?"

The two gossipers looked at the girl in question.

It had started out a normal day. Rahsel hadn't been to school for many a weeks, and today was the day that she finally returned. She seemed almost bored to be there, her thoughts most likely wandering to places the other students didn't even want to ponder. (Rashel wasn't what you would call a normal girl) She didn't care about anyone, and no one really cared about her.

When she returned, people were maybe surprised at first, then moved on.

It was right around third period that The Incident happened.

The teacher was droning on and on and on about no one really cares what. The first of the gossip girls—eyes wandering—looked over at Rashel, the not-so-slightly scary girl right at the exact moment that her lips turned up. Just slightly, mind you, but it was quite the transformation. Her face softened, her eyes twinkled, her skin glowed.

Rashel smiled.

The teacher stuttered, most likely noticing it as well. Some of the other students looked around, wondering if they were the only ones who saw it. Whispers spread.

Rashel looked out the window, her smile gone, the effect still present.

"What was that?"

"I dunno."

"You think that was, like, a joker smile?"

"The Chelsea grin?"

"Yeah."

"You think she's planning on killing people?"

"Yes. Why else would she smile?"

"..."

"Exactly."

There were no more words spoken about it after that. Well, for a while at least. Rashel never smiled again that day, and she didn't show up at school anymore. The people who thought that she was planning on killing people thought that she really went through with it, and others were too scared to think anything else.

Well, save one girl. She was a quiet girl, and she had her own theory as to why Rashel smiled. One day, she decided to share.

"Maybe she's in love?"

"Who?"

"Rashel."

"In love?"

"Yeah."

"Rashel? Jordan?" Scoff. "Don't be ridiculous."

They all said that. But the girl knew.

"She's in love. She's in love."
