Had Molly Weasley been but a bit quicker, or Ginny Weasley more lucky, or even Fred Weasley a little more dead, this would never of happened. Harry knew this and thought about what could have been often. Sadly, Molly had been bit too slow, Ginny, a bit too unlucky, and Fred, much too alive.
But, such was the way of things. Many were alive, but still too many were dead.
Ginny.
Ginny was dead, as was Remus Lupin, his friend and mentor also among the deceased was Lupin's wife Nymphadora.
But, out of so many deaths, there was life.
Teddy.
Every time Harry looked at the young boy, he was reminded of the good that stemmed from the bad and the life that stemmed from too much death.
Everything, from the small pointed nose Nymphadora had rarely carried on her always changing face, to the bright golden eyes that now drooped in exhaustion, reminded him of his now dead friends.
Quietly, so as not to disturb the now slumbering child, he eased his hands around the baby's small frame and picked up his new ward. He then slowly made his way up the stairs of his house, careful not to jar the peaceful silence. Harry placed the babe in a newly conjured crib and covered him with a small blue blanket featuring different stages of the moon.
It was a restful silence, filled only with the sound of two sets of lungs, though one smaller than the other, and the tick-tock of an ancient clock.
As Harry would soon find out, that still did not last very long at all.
