What a stupid holiday. What a troublesome holiday. What a troublesome, stupid holiday. Such troublesome, stupid rules. Who's idea was it, when a girl gave you a gift, the receiver, a boy, must give one back?
He paced back and forth in front of her door, sighing and grumbling like there was no tomorrow. The expression on his face could clearly tell you that he was annoyed, and the red tint that stained his cheeks was an obvious sign of embarrassment. He sighed once more, glancing at the yellow flower he held in his hand. He could feel his blush spreading like wildfire, which just annoyed him even more. Why? Why at that moment? When his team mate and fellow companion, gave him that gift...his mom appeared out of nowhere? He knew he didn't have to do this. He could just forget about the whole thing, and go away. Maybe relax somewhere and sky watch. But...he had this...odd feeling..he was being watched. That eerie feeling he would always get...when he did something wrong...or said something wrong. The cold, hard stare of his mother. He felt as if she was following him, just to see if he would do this task. If he didn't, he knew he would be constantly nagged about it, like when he accidentally urinated in his new pants while attending the academy as a child. Even now, at fifteen, his mom would tell him to go to the bathroom when he needed, and not hold it in.
"Why? Whhhyyy?"
It seemed like he was the only one in the universe going through this pain. There was something else that made him uncomfortable, besides the paranoia of being stalked by his mother. It was Ino Yamanaka, the girl whom he was to give the gift to. Girls didn't really bother him to much. Sure, he thought they were annoying, and bitter. Ok, maybe they did bother him. But, they didn't make him feel...so awkward. Temari and Sakura, most of the girls he knew, never made him feel as strange as he did when he was with Ino. There was something about her...those pretty blue eyes? Her...oh gee.
Get a hold of yourself, Shikamaru!
"Eh? Shikamaru? What're you doing here?"
He gulped. That voice...that obnoxiously high, voice. "...I-Ino?"
"Eh? You haven't answered-"
"Here. Take it. Now."
He shot out his hand, practically smothering the the daffodil in her face. He hadn't noticed during his fit, that he'd mushed the flower. It didn't even look like a flower anymore...which made the whole situation worse. The blond girl eyed the mushed, scratching her head in confusion. "Ehr. What is it?"
"It's a daffodil. It's you're present. Now, just take the darn thing."
"...But I don't-"
"Take it...now. Please, I'm begging you. You don't understand...my mom is-"
The girl took the flower, sighing in somewhat disappointment. "Ah, Shikamaru. I give you the most expensive chocolates in the village...and all I get is a...pansy?" she pouted.
"Hey. It's a daffodil, for your information."
She giggled, sniffing the the now wilting flower. "...I guess it's the thought that counts. Thanks. It was more thanI was expecting from you." she smirked, walking into her home. "Afternoon, Shikamaru!"
And with that, the ponytail ninja sighed with relief. Today, there would be no nagging. Today, another successful, painful mission accomplished.
Stupidly short and worthless, I know. Sorry if the characters were to OC. Leave a review, if you will.
