Hate. It was a word that many shinobi had come to live their life by. You hate your enemy as you go to kill them, you loathe them with every fibre of your being. It was the only way to live as a shinobi without destroying yourself from the guilt of having to take lives and watch as your friends and family were destroyed by other nations. You hate your orders which are given to you by a superior nin, yet you do them for the sake of your country, a country you hate as well, odd as it may sound. For if this country truly was as great as people say that it is then why would you need to slaughter people for it in the first place? Why? You then ask yourself. Why am I fighting for a country which I hate?
For him the reason was simple. He was fighting for his precious person. The smaller boy who looked up to him, who imitated him, who admired everything that he did. The boy who wasn't as naturally bright or as talented as he was but who tried his very best to make his aniki proud of him. The boy who cared unconditionally for him. The boy who lived in the comfort, unknowing of what his brother was doing while he was away on missions, just to protect him and the things which made the little boy smile.
He was fighting for his precious person and this is what made him weak.
He loathed himself. How weak he had unknowingly become. All because of one small child who had made his way into his heart. He despised the weakness that others had titled 'love' and as he looked into the grinning face of his sibling he realised that his weakness was beginning to taint him as well. He was smart though, he knew how to fix this. It was too late for him, but it wasn't too late to stop his brother from being decayed by the weakness too.
Hate. It is something which could overcome this weakness of love. His self appointed mission was to make his brother strong, to destroy every last fibre of tenderness in his being until his hate was strong enough. To help the boy become a real shinobi who only lived for power and to grow stronger, for that was the true essence of the shinobi.
