"We're home!"
It was a cool autumn afternoon in the Nordic region and all the Nordic Five Family, and Sealand, were staying for the week at Finland's and Sweden's house as a small get together.
Finland, Sweden and Sealand had just gotten back from the supermarket, when they heard the sound of breaking china.
Finland, still with 4 bags filled to the brim with groceries, sprinted down the corridor straight towards the kitchen, soon followed by a blank faced Sweden.
"What happened!?" Asked Finland with worry, dropping the bags to the floor, Sweden right behind.
Before them was an angry looking Norwegian, who was crouching on the floor his hands near his mouth, crimson liquid slowly trickling down his arm. On the floor were the pieces of what once must have been a nice cup of hot coffee. Now its contents was spilled over the tiled floor, parts blotched with a deep crimson red.
"N-no- nor, I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that I was just..."
"You were just what?!" Demanded a really pissed off Norwegian.
"I just wanted to get some beer from Sve's secret stash... You know I've got to keep hydrated..."
Denmark's hand was reaching out to the crouching Norwegian, only to have his hand slapped away.
"Leave me alone," said a blunt yet hurt voice.
"Nor, I'm sorry, I was stupid and I wasn't looking were I was going. I didn't mean to hurt you, you know that..."
"Yes, you are stupid, Denmark." Ouch, thought Denmark, he never calls me Denmark unless he is really pissed...
"Nor, please, come here." Denmark also crouched down and reached out for Norway's hands.
Norway, who was still avoiding eye contact, decided on giving Denmark the silent treatment and was staring at the floor as if it had become the most interesting thing in the world.
Denmark took hold of Norway's cut up and bloodied hands and gave Norway a reassuring smile.
He pulled the hands towards his lips, kissing the injuries softly, hoping to ease the pain.
Norway, whose cheeks were now tainted a dusty pink, at this sudden act, wanted to wreck his hands away and stomp out of the room, but the kind act made his lips twitch slightly upward.
"...Thank you..." Norway said in a barely audible voice.
"Does that mean you forgive me, Nor?" Asked the cheerful Dane.
"Maybe..." answered the flustered Norwegian. The Dane broke into a wide grin. He's so cute, he thought, I could kiss him.
"But you're cleaning up, Anko," said Norway in a blunt tone once again, as he stood up and started exciting the room. He's back, sighed the Dane, he's still cute.
"Awww, but Nor..." the Dane moaned as he followed the Norwegian out of the room.
Finland just gaped.
"Should I go and help..." started Finland, looking up at Sweden.
Sweden's blank face gave nothing away.
Sweden only shook his head and headed for the door to get the rest of the grocery bags abandoned in the hallway, so Finland started picking up the pieces of broken china off the tiled floor.
When he finished cleaning the floor Sweden came back and placed the bags on the counter and together they started unpacking the bags.
30 minutes later all the Nordics were situated in the living room on the couch.
Finland was on the edge, Hanatamago on his lap, next to Sweden, who had Sealand in between his legs and Mr. Puffin on his head.
Norway, who now had a bandaged hand, was leaning against Sweden, patting Iceland on the head as Ice was sitting on the floor, a pillow propped against his chest.
Denmark was on the edge sitting next to Norway, leaning in to try to see the book that Finland and Sweden had bought for Sealand during their shopping trip.
Sealand had the book propped up against his legs, ready to start reading.
"So what's the book about, Sea?" Asked the curious Dane.
"The Vikings!" Said Sealand enthusiastically, "basically about you!"
"Really?"
"Want me to read to you all?"
There were nods of approval from Norway and Sweden, a 'yes, Sea-kun, go for it' from Finland, an enthusiastic thumbs up from Denmark and a quiet 'whatever' from Iceland. So Sealand began to read...
The Vikings came from three countries of Scandinavia: Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The name 'Viking' comes from a language called 'Old Norse' and means 'a pirate raid'. People who went off raiding in ships were said to be 'going Viking'.
The Viking age in European history was about AD 700 to 1100. During this period many Vikings left Scandinavia and traveled to other countries, such as Britain and...
"Ha, Nor," laughed Denmark, "Do you remember when we invaded England? You were always so happy and always laughing, destroying any weak and small country or settlement you could see. And when you found out England could see those fairies of yours you were practically jumping for joy. I still wonder what happened, what changed..."
Everyone stared at Denmark's random confession, but nothing could beat Norway's look of horror and shock.
Denmark, who noticed Norway's glare, started frantically apologizing, realizing he just moved a touchy subject.
"You happened!" Exclaimed Norway angrily, then he got up and stormed out of the room.
Denmark got up and was about to run after him but a strong grip grabbed his arm.
Sweden had grabbed him and was already pulling him down to sit again.
"You really messed up this time, you know," said Iceland on the floor in a bored tone.
Finland sighed and said, "You really have to think about what you say sometimes..."
Sweden just shook his head in disbelief.
Denmark had his head in his hands and thought, what did I do? We have already argued today and here I messed up again.
"I'm going after him," he suddenly said.
They all just stared at him in disbelief, wondering why it took him so long to realize what he should do.
Denmark stood up and left the room.
When Denmark got upstairs, he went to the first place he expected Norway to be, his bedroom.
He knocked on the door, waiting for an answer.
When no answer came, he tried the door knob.
As he expected, it was locked.
He sighed and said, "Nor, if you're not going to answer, I will knock the door down, and I mean it," he ended in a serious tone.
"Go away, Denmark. You're annoying," Norway replied in a blunt tone, not quite hiding the hurt in his voice.
Denmark sighed, got ready to kick and said, "You give me no choice, Nor... In one... two...thr..."
"Don't do it. I'm sitting by the door, Denmark."
Denmark stopped in mid-kick.
"Nor, please just open the door," Denmark pleaded.
"No. Leave me alone."
"Please"
The desperate sound in his voice made the Norwegian feel a little guilty.
"Fine..." Norway stood up and unlocked the door then he turned away and sat down on the bed, his knees to his chest.
Denmark opened the door and started walking towards Norway.
Norway suddenly felt his bed sink a little and realized that Denmark had sat down onto the bed.
Before he knew what Denmark was doing, he felt strong arms pull him into an embrace.
He wanted to push away, but he soon melted into the hug.
All of a sudden Denmark pulled away and said, "Are you still angry with me?"
"Yes. Yes I am."
He didn't even say Denmark, Denmark thought.
"But why? I only said I miss the happy, cheerful you, that all."
"You know better than anyone where that 'happy, cheerful' me went."
"Nor. Are you talking about... you know...the 400 year night?"
Norway's eyes widened ever so slightly.
"...Yes. Yes I am," he said in a barely audible whisper.
Denmark sighed a little bit.
"Norge. You know I'm not like that anymore. I was a power hungry bastard then, not caring about yours or anyone else's feelings. I never meant to do all those things to you... I'm so sorry. I know I hurt you all the time and I say sorry so often now, far more often then I should be. It's just, I have become so clumsy now, hurting you with every step I take. It hurts seeing your eyes look so unhappy and hurt, and it hurts even more when you're so emotionless that I can't even see what you feel by looking in your eyes. It hurts because it is not the real Norge that I know. It hurts because I can feel that you are unhappy, yet I can't see it and I can't do anything to help you."
Norway just kept on staring into space.
Then out of nowhere he whispered, "Why?"
Denmark glanced at Norway and saw his eyes brimming with tears, a tear slipping down his smooth, pale cheek.
Denmark slowly twisted round and faced Norway.
He gently grabbed his smooth to touch face and pulled his face towards him as he leaned in for a kiss.
The kiss was short but tender; Norway's soft lips were slightly open, his deep sea blue eyes wide open in shock.
He tried pulling away, pushing his hands against Denmark's strong and defined chest, but the Danes muscular arms pulled him closer, not letting him to escape.
After a while Norway melted into the kiss.
His eyes slowly lidded down and he started kissing back.
Denmark finally pulled away, both Norway and him breathing a little more heavily than normal.
"Because I love you, Nor," said Denmark with a smile.
Norway, who was still in shock, stared at him blankly.
Finally he got up and said quietly, "Annoying brother... let's get back downstairs. The others must be thinking I had finally killed you."
Denmark got up and followed Norway out of the room.
When they reached the living room, Sealand had continued to read the Viking book, whilst the other three Nordics sat listening.
When the Dane and Norwgian sat down everyone turned their heads towards them, curiosity taking over.
An awkward silence filled the room.
"So... everything okay now?" Asked Finland uncertainly, breaking the silence.
"Yes," answered Norway bluntly as if nothing had happened. Denmark only nodded.
"Well I am glad to hear it," said Finland, "would you like to continue, Sea-kun?"
Sealand nodded and continued reading.
As he read, Denmark leaned on Norway, snaking his arms around his waist to pull him closer to himself, only to receive a pale foot to push him away by the face.
"Hey, Nor!" Exclaimed Denmark.
He started pouting a little bit and then pointed an accusing finger at Norway.
Norway completely brushed away the Danes, annoying childish pouts and continued listening to Sealand's voice as he read the book.
After a while, everyone started dosing off. First Sealand, who was exhausted after reading almost half of the heavy information book, after him Sweden fell asleep with Finland and Sealand in his arms.
Afterwards Iceland finally got bored and fell asleep with Mr. Puffin nesting on the top of his head still clutching his pillow.
Denmark too began to fall asleep.
He was lying back on Norway's lap, his eyes closed, while Norway was fiddling with his spiky yet oddly soft hair.
He was slowly drifting in and out of consciousness, almost asleep when he suddenly heard Norway whisper, "I love you, too."
Denmark smiled and finally fell asleep.
