Monday Night Raw, June 2, 2014
Hunter paced back and forth in his office, things were definitely not going as he had planned tonight. First, he was having a hard time with Dean. He couldn't wait to have Dean by his side so he would stop doubting his leadership. Yesterday, he had left Dean convincing him that Seth and Roman had to be taken out by Randy and Dave in order to separate him from the Shield. However, all last night and all day today, he and Dean sent texts arguing about the demise of the Shield. Dean did not want Randy and Dave to brutalize them. Dean kept on insisting that he should be the one to bring them down completely that it would have more of an impact. But Hunter knew there was a hidden agenda, Dean simply did not want them to be harmed anymore than need be. This surprised Hunter, he did not expect Dean to have such a heart. Hunter after all proved to him that Seth and Roman where just as ambitious and would have taken the same opportunity and yet Dean was still concerned about his friends' welfare. But Hunter needed Dean to prove his loyalty to him and demanded that Dean follow through with tonight's script. Hunter assured him that Seth and Roman would eventually understand and forgive him because after all they had discussed the eventual end of the Shield and the start of their singles career.
It was important to Hunter that the script be followed tonight not only to elevated Dean's career as the heel and future of the WWE but also to remind the remaining Shield members, the rest of the main roster and the WWE Universe, who ran the kingdom, who at the end of day would always have the last word. He just hoped Dean didn't fuck it all up that he stuck to the plan unlike Dave.
Hunter stopped his pacing in the middle of the room. He had one hand covering his forehead looking down at the ground not looking at anything in particular as he let out a deep sigh. He couldn't believe Batista quit the Authority as well as the WWE, just because he wouldn't give him a title match. Hunter realized he promised Batista a chance at the World Heavyweight Championship Belt but Daniel Bryant was currently out due to an injury and could not defend his title tonight. Plus, the Authority still had not beaten the Shield. Not to mention, Batista's long absence from the WWE had diminished his popularity with the fans and he wasn't as effective in the ring. So, for him to get a chance or even to be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion was not what was best for business.
So, Plan A was definitely out the window now and Plan B was looking pretty shaky. He could only hope now that Dean did not let him down. Fuck this "hope" shit, Hunter thought heatedly. No, Dean was going to follow through because he had planted the seeds doubt and showed him that the only person you could truly trust was yourself and of course The Game. He would leave this arena tonight with the Authority on top, with Dean by his side and the Shield at his feet in ruins because he was the King of Kings and this was his kingdom after all.
Dean paced back and forth near the spectator entrance which led into the arena, the Shield was getting ready to do their promo for Monday Night Raw and it was getting closer to his unthinkable act, switching sides. He had hoped with Batista quitting that Hunter would have a change of heart but he was more determined than ever for Dean to follow through.
Dean was nervous and silent as he was trying to get himself focused. He looked over to Seth and Roman, they were standing next to each other getting pumped for their upcoming promo. Seth was stretching his neck from side to side and then started to bounce up and down. Dean grinned a little, he could never stay still, he was the ultimate energizer bunny. Roman was stretching out his back leaning his body forward and backward and side to side trying to loosen up his stiff, sore back. He was definitely Superman to be able to still be standing with the beating he took last night, hell after the beating they all took. Dean was going to miss them. Their entrance, their friendship, their camaraderie, them but he knew he was only doing what they would have done if they were given the same chance. However, it didn't make what he was about to do any easier. He only hoped they would one day get past this and be friends again. But Dean was ready to chase his dream of being the next World Heavyweight Champion and to be mentored by Hunter, whom he considered a role model. If he was able to pull himself out of his hellish existence then so could he.
Dean went up to them and put his arms around their shoulders and brought them closer together for tight hug with him in the middle. Seth and Roman reciprocated by putting one of their arms around Dean's waist, hugging him back. They stayed that way for a couple of moments, before Seth broke the silence and said, "We are going to kick their asses.", he then stuck his fist out in front of them.
"Like we did last night.", said Roman triumphantly and stuck his fist out near Seth's.
"We rule!", Dean said, because in that moment they did, they had defeated the Authority soundly for the second time making them the most dominate faction in the WWE. He then stuck his fist out to join them.
"Ok guys its your queue.", said a staffer as their music started to play.
Dean took a deep breath, here goes nothing he thought as they made their way to the ring.
As the Shield was doing their promo, Evolution minus Batista came out to the arena, interrupting them. Hunter walk toward the ring with a sledgehammer resting against his left shoulder with a microphone in his right hand and Randy beside him. Dean rolled out of the ring to get some chairs, his hands were shaking thinking of what he was about to do. Part of him wanted to forget the whole thing but then he reminded himself that Roman had accepted the same offer. How Roman and Seth had spoken of how the Shield would eventually come to an end without including him in their discussions. In that moment he knew he was doing what was best for himself as they were doing what was best for themselves.
Dean rolled back into the ring he put one chair to the side and held the other in his hand as Hunter spoke, "Last night was Plan A. Tonight is Plan B. There's always a Plan B." That was Dean's queue. Roman and Seth looked from one side of the ring to the other as if expecting a surprise attack before taking a couple of steps in Hunter's and Randy's direction. The fans in the arena were silently watching, he could swear some were holding their breaths waiting for the next move. Dean then wheeled the chair and smacked Roman as hard as he could. The sound of the chair making contact with Roman's back made his face grimace not from the effort he put into the hit but from the guilt of his act. It made him want to throw up. Dean could hear several gasp coming from the audience and the echoing of NO's coming from some. He watched as Roman buckle under the force of the blow falling into the ropes onto his knees. The fans got louder in their disbelief in what Dean had just done.
Seth stood stun looking at Roman crumble to the mat. His mind unable, refusing to believe the reason Roman was down was because of Dean. Seth looked at Dean in open mouth shock, he realized that Dean was the Plan B, Hunter was talking about. Suddenly he was filled with rage and approached Dean ready to kick his ass but Dean attacked first using the chair to hit him in the mid section, knocking the wind out of him.
Dean hit Seth in the back with the chair, causing the younger man to fall to the mat face first. He hit him several times trying to make him stay down. He figured if he beat them enough and left nothing for Randy, he could save them some pain but Seth refused to stay down. So, he hit him again and again, Dean was getting angry at Seth's stubbornness, angry at being forced to do this because they would have done this to him. All the hurt and resentment, he felt at them excluding him from their plans, theirs discussions that would have effected him too, tricking him into believing they were brothers when they were not, this made him increase the force behind each blow. He stopped hitting Seth and hit Roman a couple of more times before finally stopping and throwing the mangled chair out of the ring.
The boo's of the fans were deafening, he could see the disbelief, anger and hate on their faces at what he had just done. He couldn't bare to look at them as he bent to pick up the other chair. He kept his eyes down not wanting to show the fans or cameraman, the emotions that ran across his face, the sadness, the guilt, the regret that he was the one to end the Shield. He had to be convincing in his heel turn. He gritted his teeth as he slowly walked across the ring looking one more time at Seth and Roman struggling to stand up. Why couldn't Seth fucken stay down. Dean threw the chair on the mat and wrapped his arm around Seth's head and did his signature move Dirty Deeds, ramming Seth's head into the steel chair. His heart was thundering against his chest, seeing Seth's motionless body. He picked up the chair again.
As he exited the ring, the fans had started to chant, "You sold out!" Dean did not expect the fans turning against him to hurt so much but it was something he had to get use to. He had to hold himself together, it was almost over. As he walked away from the ring, he could hear, Roman and Seth moaning, guilt washed over him knowing he was the cause of their pain.
Dean walked up to Hunter, who had a lopsided grin on his face. He then handed the steel chair to Randy. Dean took his place beside Hunter as they watched Randy enter the ring to finish Seth and Roman off. Hunter placed his hand on Dean's shoulder as Randy started to assault Seth and Roman. Hunter could feel Dean's body getting stiff and tense with each blow Randy delivered. Dean's eyes were intensely watching Randy as he beat his former brothers senseless, his hands were balled at his sides. He was trying to contain the rage he felt, why didn't the bastered stop, Seth and Roman offered no struggle or resistance. Randy turned Roman over and was undoing his vest, so he could hit Roman's bare back. Dean made a move toward the ring wanting to stop Randy's attack but was held in place by Hunter's hand that went from his shoulder to a vice grip on the back of his neck.
Dean struggled in Hunter's unyielding grip, managing to turned slightly toward Hunter and through gritted teeth, he vehemently said in whisper for Hunter's ears only, "Make him stop or I swear I will."
Hunter kept his smile plastered to his face, as he looked at Dean. He could see the rage in Dean's eyes and knew Dean was serious. Through the mic Hunter shouted, "That is enough Randy!" Randy instantly stopped his assault and looked at Hunter with disappointment, he wanted to get a few more licks on Roman. However, he could tell from Hunter's tone he meant business.
Hunter and Dean made their way into the ring to join Randy and stood over the bodies of Seth and Roman victoriously. Dean could not look at the fans or the cameraman, fearing they would see his inner turmoil. He had to stay strong and embrace his new roll or this would have all been for nothing.
