Speech seemed to have escaped Severus.
Hermione raised her eyebrows. She really knew Severus all too well.
Finally he managed, "W-What?""
She bit her bottom lip. "I said I'm pregnant."
"That's not possible," he said, shaking his head. He stopped suddenly. "Is it?"
"Unless you had a surgery that I didn't know about, then yes, it is possible."
"But my age –"
"You're a wizard," Hermione interrupted, "I don't think your age matters in the same it way it would matter for a muggle man. We're having a baby. Tell me now if I'm doing this alone."
Severus blinked. "What? Of course you're not doing it alone. I might have not planned to be a father – in fact, I never thought it would happen – but now that it has, I'll be there every step of the way.
Hermione threw her arms around Severus' neck and pulled his lips down for a hungry kiss. Severus returned it with equal fervor, groaning as her hands smooth down his shirt, rubbing his chest sensually.
When they parted, both of them were breathing heavily. "I know this wasn't planned, and I know how much of a shock this is, but I am happy. I always wanted to have a child with the man I love, and now I am."
Severus caressed her cheek. "I'm glad you're happy. I just hope I can be a good father."
She rolled her eyes. "Of course you will be. You thought you wouldn't make a good husband, and you're the best. And the same thing will happen when it comes to being a father."
Severus took her hand and led her to the couch. They laid down together on it, Hermione's body on top of Severus and his chest pillowing her head. "So, do you want a boy or girl?"
Images flashed through her head, and Hermione smiled. "As long as the child's healthy, I'd be happy." She paused, her busy mind going over everything, and then she continued somewhat sheepishly, "Although, it would be nice to have a little girl."
"I knew you had a preference," he joked.
"I'd love a son just as much," she rebutted.
Severus chuckled. "I'm not afraid to admit that I'd prefer a son. I think boys are easier."
"Say's you," Hermione retorted. "It doesn't matter. We can find out for sure in about eight weeks."
"Can't wait," he said, soothingly rubbing her back.
"Me either."
